WhatsApp is rolling out a new beta update bringing the version to 2.23.24.10. It brings a more secure experience to WhatsApp thanks to an added layer of email verification. Earlier teased in v2.23.16.15 and v2.23.18.19 beta for Android, the update gives a new section called ‘Email address’ for added security.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp will prompt users to enter their email address. As of now, it is an optional feature but WhatsApp is recommending users to enable it to prevent any kind of intrusion in your account. Additionally, you will have to provide the email when signing in on another device that generates a verification code much like SMS in the previous method.

WhatsApp Beta is rolling out email verification feature

No, you won’t be able to create a WhatsApp account using an email address since the phone number will be the primary and unique identifier. Email, on the other hand, adds a layer of security designed for users to use it as an alternative to access their WhatsApp accounts since you can now use WhatsApp on multiple companion devices refining the overall experience.

Note that the feature has been rolled out in limited capacity to some beta testers. You can install the latest WhatsApp beta for Android from the Google Play Store to get your hands on this feature with others rolling out in the coming weeks. Moreover, you could have the same feature in the previous iteration as well so do have a look via WhatsApp Settings >> Account >> Email Address.
