In a recent blog post, Truecaller announced the arrival of Personal Voice. It is a paid feature that lets users create a “digital version” of their voice to use with the Truecaller Assistant. Previously, the app allowed users to select from seven pre-set digital voices to answer incoming calls. However, through a partnership with Microsoft, the app can now help users set up their digital voice through the Personal Voice feature, powered by Microsoft’s Azure AI Speech tech.

Truecaller Assistant Has Been Around For A While

For those catching up, Truecaller Assistant is a suite of AI-driven features that facilitate automatic call answering, screening, call recording, and more. With the Truecaller Assistant, the company also claims to filter spam calls with an accuracy of 90 percent. While these features have been around for quite some time, Personal Voice happens to be the latest addition.
It uses AI voice recognition technology to clone the users’ voice and mimic it. Obviously, users would have to enable and set up the feature before using it, implying that the feature is optional. Hence, those who are worried about the privacy concerns the feature poses can choose not to enable it. With that said, here are the steps to turn on and set up Personal Voice on Truecaller.

How To Set Up Personal Voice On Truecaller?
As mentioned before, Personal Voice is a paid feature, i.e., it is only available for Truecaller Premium users. With that out of the way, here’s how you can clone your voice and use it to respond to phone calls while you aren’t available.
- Download Truecaller on your smartphone. If you already have the app, update it to the latest version.
- Subscribe to Truecaller Premium.
- Go to the settings section in the app.
- Set up a Personal Voice by following the instructions to record your voice.
- Now, whenever the Trucaller Assistant handles a call, the callers will hear your voice.

What’s good is that the initial message that the Assistant plays informs the caller that they’re talking to a digitally cloned voice of the user. Currently, the feature is rolling out in regions like the United States, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Chile, Sweden, and India. However, in the near future, it should also be available in other countries. Yes, the feature sparks a conversation about its potential misuse, but ultimately, users get to decide whether they want to use the feature or not.
