Google I/O 2023: Cut to the chase

What is Google I/O?

In simple terms, Google I/O is the annual developer’s conference by Google, where the company shares all the updates related to technology for the betterment of services and applications belonging to the Google Ecosystem. Google also uses the event to announce all the major products and devices.

On what date Google I/O 2023 is scheduled?

In the year 2023, The Google I/O is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2023. In previous years, the event was a two to three days affair. However, this year, it will only last for a day.

Where will Google I/O 2023 be supposed to be held?

In the Google I/O 2023, the organization is inviting a limited number of media and development community members. The event will be held at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California. For the generic audience, the event will be only available to watch online.

What can we expect to see in the Google I/O 2023?

There are a lot of things on the cards which we can get to see in the Google I/O 2023. Mentioned below are the most prominent devices and software that we can get to see them at the event:

  • Google Pixel Fold
  • Google Pixel Watch 2
  • Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro
  • Google Pixel Tablet
  • Google Pixel 7a
  • Android 14

Google Pixel Fold

The Google Pixel Fold is going to be the company’s reply to other foldable in the market, like Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, Vivo X Fold 2, and a lot more. Expectations are that Google will make the device official in the Google I/O 2023. As of now, most of the details regarding the Google Pixel Fold are under wraps. However, the leaks and rumors related to the same have revealed the design and a few key specs too. In terms of design, the device will have a book-like folding mechanism, and it will compete with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and others.

The design of the smartphone will be similar to the Pixel 7 series smartphones. It is also being said that the handset will be powered by the Google Tensor G2 processor paired with a decent amount of RAM and internal storage. Due to the number of rumors quashing each other in terms of revealing the specifications of the device, we will prefer not to mention anything until we get to know more about the same through legitimate sources.

A major rumor regarding the Google Pixel Fold is that it will be launched in a soft way via the event that is going to take place next month. However, the device will not be available for sale right after that as Google is possibly planning to introduce a pre-order date for the same right after the soft launch. One thing which we can deduce from the whole scenario is that the device will see the light by the end of June 2023.

Google Pixel Watch 2

The Google Pixel Watch 2 is something that has the least possibility of making it to the Google I/O 2023. The only reason why we think this can happen is that the Pixel Watch was also soft-launched last year in the Google I/O 2022 event. Speculations are that we will get to see the official release of the Google Pixel Watch 2 only around the last quarter of 2023.

We can get to see features like sleep tracking and fitness modes in the upcoming Google Pixel Watch 2 with built-in GPS, heart rate monitor, Fitbit’s ECG applications support, and more. At this point in time, we are also skeptical about the specifications and features of the Google Pixel Watch 2. Speculations are that we will get to know more about the same soon after the Google I/O 2023 event.

Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro

It is no surprise that the Alphabet-owned tech tycoon is looking to launch two new flagship smartphones in the Google I/O 2023 event, namely Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. In the last Google I/O event, the organization teased the Google Pixel 7 series, and we are expecting the same to happen with the Google Pixel 8 series in the latest installment of Google I/O. Rumors regarding the series suggest that it will be pretty identical to the Google Pixel 7 series in terms of looks.

However, we may get to see minute design updates in the upcoming devices by Google. Both smartphones from the upcoming series will get an OLED display complemented with a high refresh rate. Apart from that, we can expect to see a high-capacity battery along with fast charging support in the devices. At this point in time, Google has not revealed a lot of things related to the Pixel 8 series. It would be interesting to see what changes and new features Google will bring in the Pixel 8 series as compared to its predecessor.

Google Pixel tablet

In the last two to three years, we have seen multiple smartphone-producing brands like Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus, and others making their way into the tablet segment. Finally, there are high chances that Google is also going to infiltrate the global tablet market with the introduction of the Google Pixel Tablet. The continuous rumors related to the device hint that we could see it soon in the Google I/O 2023 event. The leaks and rumors have it that the tablet will be up for pre-orders starting from May 10. However, the official availability date of the tablet will be somewhere around the end of the second quarter of 2023.

As for the specifications, the Google Pixel Tablet will run on the Tensor G2 processor. According to an official blog post by Google, the tablet will be more focused on offering features like photo editing, Google Assistant, and attending video calls. It will operate on the Android 12L operating system, which is a custom OS specially designed for tablets. The tablet will also be able to serve as a smart home device in an ecosystem where you can control and manage other devices with it. Rumors suggested that it will get a 50MP primary shooter for clicking the best shots and making videos.

In terms of storage, we can get to see multiple storage options, including 128GB and 256GB internal storage. According to the leaks, we can also get to see the tablet carrying a 10.95-inch display panel with 1600×2560 pixels resolution. It is in the air that the device will ship with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for security purposes. We can also get to see GPS, cellular connectivity features, 8GB RAM, and 256GB internal storage in the upcoming tablet from Google.

Google Pixel 7a

The Google Pixel 7a is also on the cards, and most probably, it will make its debut in the Google I/O 2023. The leaks and rumors related to the Google Pixel 7a suggest that the device will feature a 61-inch FHD+ OLED display coupled with a 90Hz refresh rate. The smartphone will be powered by the Google Tensor G2 processor paired with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage.

In terms of optics, the device may flaunt a dual rear camera setup consisting of a 64MP Sony IMX787 primary shooter and a 12MP Sony IMX712 secondary shooter. The device will draw power from a 4,410mAh battery along with fast charging support. All in all, we can say that the handset is going to be much better than its predecessor, Google Pixel 6a. All other details regarding the device are still under wraps. Speculations are that we will get to about all that the Google Pixel 7a has to offer in the Google I/O 2023 event.

Android 14 operating system

Google has been pretty serious from the start in relation to the regular updates of Android versions. This time, we are anticipating that Google will roll out the Android 14 official operating system in Google I/O 2023. The OS is already in the public beta systems. All the Pixel phone users can even download and test the same now. We will get to see some major announcements related to the Android 14 rollout and the new features that will be introduced in the operating system. It is being said that the stable version of Android 14 OS will be released somewhere around August 2023.
