The Galaxy Ring sounds like an intriguing new product from Samsung, especially since it’s their first smart ring and unique in the market from a smartphone manufacturer. The $399 price point, while higher than competitors like the Oura Ring, is justified by the lack of a subscription fee for current features.
However, a footnote on the Galaxy Ring’s product page states: “Currently available Samsung Health features that use the Samsung Galaxy Ring are provided without monthly subscription. Different terms may apply for future Samsung Health features.”

This means that while the current features will remain free, any new features or add-ons that will added via software updates might come with a subscription cost. Samsung has assured no subscription fees for the current features though, so you’re good there.
The Galaxy Ring is packed with health and fitness tracking capabilities, including heart rate, SpO2, blood pressure, ECG, sleep tracking, and more. All of this data is available via the Samsung Health app.

Although there’s a possibility that Samsung might introduce subscription fees for new features in the future, their track record with the Galaxy Watches—where features have remained free—suggests they might continue to offer new features without a subscription. But given the trend towards subscription models, it’s hard to say for sure.
So, should you get the Galaxy Ring now? Well, if the current features meet your needs, then you should have no problem going for the Galaxy Ring. But if you’re hoping for additional features in the future for free, it might be wise to wait and see how Samsung handles this.
