Swiggy Enters Grocery Delivery Service with Swiggy Stores

Swiggy, an Indian online food delivery service, has said to expand its business to include home essential under Swiggy Stores. Under this new service, Swiggy will deliver groceries from brick and motor store. With the new diversification, it would be competing against the likes of Big Basket and Grofers.

With its fore into enters with the aim to “extend the convenience of ordering food from nearby restaurants to ordering anything from ANY store across your city.” Swiggy Stores won’t be a separate application. Instead, you could access it within the core Swiggy app. You could buy fruits, Vegetables, floral items, health and medicinal products, baby care products, and other groceries.

The new update will be rolled out in phases and Gurugram would be its pilot location. Swiggy has already partnered with around 3,500 stores in the city. Like its Food delivery service, it aims for swift delivery within an hour or less. The company has reported a few early partners like Le Marche, Guardian Pharmacy and Zappfresh.com

Swiggy had acquired delivery service SuprDaily last September. Then in December, the company also went on to raise $1 billion in funding, led by Naspers. This rose Swiggy’s valuation to $3.3 billion. This lured the investments from Tencent, the Chinese internet giant.

It seems this advancement helped it to be a step ahead than rivals like Zomato, UberEats Foodpanda. Now, consumers would have one more reason to use Swiggy against the rest. Interested readers could download the beta application, start browsing and shopping.

The company openly welcomes feedback while it’s in the beta stage to improve the service to meet the standard set by its primary service. For now, the product range could be limited which is likely to scale up with time.
