Google Co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin have relinquished the steering wheel of Alphabet Inc to Sundar Pichai. Thus, Mr. Pichai is now the CEO of both Google and its parent company – Alphabet Inc. From an executive to the summit of the Silicon Valley giant, this has been a 15 long year journey for Sundar.

Both Page and Brin will no longer be part of active management and public roles. They shared a letter on the official Google blog post, “Today, in 2019, if the company was a person, it would be a young adult of 21 and it would be time to leave the roost. While it has been a tremendous privilege to be deeply involved in the day-to-day management of the company for so long, we believe it’s time to assume the role of proud parents—offering advice and love, but not daily nagging!”

In the blog post, they reveal that “it’s the natural time to simplify our management structure. We’ve never been ones to hold on to management roles when we think there’s a better way to run the company. And Alphabet and Google no longer need two CEOs and a President.”

Now that he is at the helm, Pichai will have to take care of both the big picture and the day-to-day operations. He must handle ongoing labor unrest, fading public trust, pressure from the government to break Big Tech companies, so on and so forth. So, for him, it’s going to be a long hard road ahead.
