Sonos Just Launched the Amp Multi to Kill the ‘Stacking’ Era of Home Audio

Sonos is tired of seeing its standard Amps stacked like pancakes in dusty server closets. Today, the company quietly unveiled the Sonos Amp Multi, a high-density, multi-zone streaming amplifier that serves as a direct olive branch to custom installers.

This isn’t a product for your living room shelf; it’s a powerhouse designed to live in an AV rack, powering an entire estate from a single chassis.

One Box, 24 Speakers

The hardware shift here is significant. Instead of the two channels found in the standard Sonos Amp, the Multi delivers eight amplified outputs at 125W each, spread across four configurable zones.

Because each channel can drive up to three Sonos Architectural speakers, a single unit can technically manage 24 speakers. For installers, this replaces what used to be four separate Sonos Amps, a messy nest of power cables, and a lot of heat management.

The ‘GaN’ Advantage

Under the hood, Sonos is using Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology for the power architecture. This allows the Amp Multi to deliver massive power while remaining fanless and silent.

“Amp Multi takes the same philosophy that made Sonos Amp popular and applies it to larger systems,” says Sonos CEO Tom Conrad. The “philosophy” here is simplicity: one app, one interface, but now with a professional-grade scale.

Pro Comparison: Is it worth the upgrade?

By moving into the rack, Sonos is effectively locking out traditional CI (Custom Integration) brands from the audio layer. While pricing hasn’t been officially listed for India yet, expect a premium “Professional Only” tag when it hits installation partners in the coming weeks.
