Qualcomm upgraded its flagship Snapdragon 855 chipset to Snapdragon 855 Plus, which is basically a higher-binned variant with slightly faster CPU and GPU cores. Last year, Snapdragon 845 also had a higher frequency refresh that made it to phones like Asus ROG Phone, but this year Qualcomm has released the refresh with a Plus moniker, which perhaps explains the enthusiastic response from Android manufacturers worldwide. Snapdragon 855 Plus vs Snapdragon 855: What’s different?
Qualcomm has marketed Snapdragon 855 Plus as a game-centric chipset. The launch presentation talked at length about the Snapdragon elite gaming features, but that’s something you’d find on both Snapdragon 855 and Snapdragon 855 Plus.
But yes, the gaming claims aren’t completely unfounded. The Adreno 640 GPU gets a significant 15% boost as the clock frequency jumps from 585MHz to 672Mhz. Also, the frequency of the single Prime core has been increased from 2.84 to 2.96Hz, which should help improve the performance of single-threaded workloads.
It remains to be seen if these changes translate to a meaningful difference in real-world usage, but the Plus moniker surely gives OEMs a marketing advantage they aren’t willing to forgo. So, here’s a list of Snapdragon 855 phones that are already official or are in the pipeline.

1. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip becomes the first Flip phone to rock a Snapdragon 800 chipset. The South Korean giant is backing the Snapdragon 855+ to do all the heavy lifting on the Galaxy Z Flip. It is Samsung’s second foldable phone iteration. For this unique device, Samsung developed a foldable Dynamic AMOLED using glass.
The Samsung Galaxy Z features a 6.7 inches FHD+ screen, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, 8GB RAM, 256GB UFS 3.0 Storage, and a 3300mAh battery. The Galaxy Z Flip is likely to debut in India next month.
2. Realme X3 SuperZoom Edition
Realme has launched the X3 SuperZoom Edition which is powered by Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset. It comes with 8GB RAM and up to 256GB storage. The smartphone has a 6.6-inch IPS LCD display and has a dual selfie camera setup including a 32MP and an 8MP lens. The back has a quad camera setup including a 64MP primary, 8MP ultrawide, and two 2 MP lenses. Realme X3 SuperZoom packs a 4200mAh battery with 30W fast charging tech. It is currently available for Rs. 29,999 via Flipkart.
3. Asus ROG Phone 2
Asus ROG Phone 2 (review) is the first Snapdragon 855 Plus phone to go official. The second-generation gaming phone from Asus integrates the best possible hardware for maximum performance and has an elaborate cooling system to ensure that the resultant performance doesn’t throttle in the long run.
To further favor gamers, ROG Phone II has a low latency AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch refresh rate and a 6000mAh battery. Other highlights include 30W fast charging, stereo speakers, and dual rear cameras.
4. OnePlus 7T
OnePlus 7T is the first phone to launch with Android 10 out of the box. The phone flaunts an AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and is powered by Snapdragon 855 plus octa-core processor paired with 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 3.0 storage.
The OnePlus 7T further gets triple rear cameras, 30W warp charging, and a slick design. OnePlus will soon introduce the OnePlus 7T Pro with the same Snapdragon 855+ chipset.
5. Realme X2 Pro
Soon after the Snapdragon 855 Plus announcement, Realme took to social media to welcome this new chip. And it’s finally here – the Realme X2 Pro (review). Realme has shoehorned in state-of-the-art specs. This includes a 90Hz display, 64MP Quad Rear Camera, 50W fast charging, up to 12gigs of RAM, and UFS 3.0 storage to name a few.
It currently runs on Android Pie-based ColorOS 6, although a stock-esque ColorOS 7 is on the way.
6. Vivo Nex 3
Vivo always tries to push the design or rather a phone display to the extreme with its Nex series, and this year Nex 3 gets a “waterfall” screen. The AMOLED display with steep side curves has full HD+ resolution, is HDR10 compatible, and is notch-free.
Vivo backs its flagship with a powerful Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset, 64MP sensor-led quad-rear cameras, and 44W ultra-fast charging.
7. Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro
Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro is an upgraded version of the Mi 9 and is powered by the Snapdragon 855 Plus octa-core chipset paired with 8GB and 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and ample UFS 2.1 storage. The phone has a “professionally-calibrated” AMOLED display and triple rear cameras.
The Mi 9 Pro lays special emphasis on fast charging. Xiaomi bundles a 45W charger in the box and if you use the proprietary wireless charging dock you can wirelessly charge the Mi 9 Pro at 30W in just 69 minutes. The handset also supports 10W reverse wireless charging.
8. Black Shark 2 Pro
Black Shark just introduced a pro variant of its second-generation gaming phone, the Black Shark 2 Pro. Apart from the new Snapdragon 855 plus chipset, the Pro variant also has faster UFS 3.0 storage, the impact of which should be visible while installing big game files.
Other than that, other specs and designs remain the same. There’s a 6.39-inch AMOLED display with a 240Hz touch refresh rate, 12GB of LPDDR4x RAM, an almost-stock Android 9 Pie-based Joy UI, and a 4000mAh battery.
9. Mi Mix Alpha
Mi Mix Alpha is a concept phone that will see a limited release, but it’s quite an exciting one. That’s because the display wraps around to the back, giving the impression of a phone that’s entirely made of screens.
The new Mix manages to fit in the latest Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset. Other specs are a 4050mAh battery coupled with a 30W fast charging and reverse wireless charging support, a 108MP Samsung sensor along with a 20MP ultra-wide lens, and a 12MP shooter.
10. Vivo iQOO Pro
Vivo’s gaming-centric smartphone – iQOO gets a Pro upgrade. The new phone brings Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset and is available in two variants. There are a Vivo iQOO Pro 4G edition and an iQOO Pro 5G model. You get the proprietary Funtouch OS on top.
It flaunts a 6.41-inch 1080×2340 Super AMOLED display that bears a fingerprint scanner within. The rear cameras include a 48MP (f/1.79) primary coupled with a 12MP ultrawide (f/2.2) and a 2MP depth sensor. The selfie camera carries a 12 MP (f/2.0) sensor.
It draws juice from a 4500mAh battery which is backed by 45W ultra-fast charging support. As for the memory configs, you get 8/12GB of RAM and 128GB of storage with the 4G iQOO Pro. The 5G variant will be out in 8/12GB of RAM and 128/256GB of storage space.
11. Nubia Red Magic 3s
Nubia Red Magic 3s is an upgrade to Nubia Red Magic that was launched in India for a starting price of Rs. 34,999. The handset includes a 90Hz AMOLED display, 8GB RAM, and up to 256GB UFS 3.0 storage.
The Magic 3s has a 5000mAh battery and an active air inlet with a turbo cooling fan and liquid cooling to endure long-duration gaming bouts without throttling performance.
12. Meizu M16s Pro
Meizu launched the M16s Pro in China and the inherent 855+ chipset grabs the attention. The performance is backed by up to 8GB LPDDR4x RAM and UFS 3.0 256GB storage. You get FlymeOS skin on top of Android 9 Pie.
The front has an AMOLED display, that stretches 6.2 inches in size with Full HD+ resolution. The rear cameras include a primary 48MP shooter, teamed with a 20MP telephoto sensor, and a 16MP ultrawide snapper. The selfie camera houses a 20MP sensor. Its fuel source is a 3600mAh battery that supports a 24W fast charger.
13. Xiaomi Redmi K20 Pro Premium Edition
Xiaomi has also announced a Premium Edition of its Redmi K20 Pro (review) which rocks a Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset inside. In China, the Redmi K20 Pro Premium Edition is offered with up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage.
Apart from these upgrades rest of the phone remains the same as the earlier launched Redmi K20 Pro.
14. Oppo Reno Ace
Oppo Reno Ace brings top-of-the-line specs including Snapdragon 855+ chipset. It packs up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.0 onboard storage. The head-turning feature is, however, it’s ultra-speed 65W charging that claims to top the underlying 4000mAh battery within 30 minutes.
The Oppo Reno Ace is bedecked with a 90Hz AMOLED display, a 48MP quad-rear camera setup, and many more gaudy features. Oppo is expected to launch the Reno Ace in India next month.
