Seven upcoming Tata Motors electric cars in India

The EV unit of Tata Motors is gradually grasping the electric car market of India with record sales numbers over the last years. The company is gearing to take the advantage of this lead by expanding its EV portfolio in the country. As the next move, the homegrown maker will be bringing long-range versions of Tata Nexon EC and Tigor EV.

Tata electric mobility brand is reported to invest Rs 15,000 crore with an objective to manufacture 10 new electric cars by 2025. While few of the upcoming Tata electric car models are confirmed, others are still rumored. Here’s a list of the upcoming Tata Motors electric car in India that are in the pipeline.

1. Tata Nexon EV MAX (Long Range)

Tata is all set to launch the long-range version of its existing Nexon EV in India on May 11. The current Tata Nexon EV brings onboard a 129PS electric motor with a 245Nm torque capable of accelerating from 0 to 100kmph in 9.14 seconds. It packs a 30.2kWh under the hood that gives a range of 312Km on a single charge. While the upcoming Nexon EV MAX is anticipated to be equipped with a larger 40kWh battery to offer an improved range of 400km. 

2. 2022 Tata Tigor EV

The next electric car in the pipeline is the 2022 Tata Tigor EV but the official details are still not public. For an improvement to the 2021 model, the upcoming Tigor EV is expected to come with rechristened chassis and a better suspension-braking system to go with the body weight. The electric car could pack a new battery pack for a 365km to 400km range. This goes without saying that it will produce a more powerful output than the existing model which delivers 74.6PS and 170Nm torque.

3. Tata Altroz EV

The company is currently selling ICE models of Tata Altroz in India and is widely believed to be working on its EV counterpart. Since the Altroz ICE is built on Tata’s ALPHA-ARC platform which is meant to handle other powertrains, it will be easier for the brand to bring an electric model as well. The anticipations are higher that Altroz EV will be offering up to 300km range and will come with major cosmetic upgrades.

4. Tata Punch EV

Tata Punch EV being an ultra-compact SUV is said to get its EV version by the end of this year. It will be again based on the in-house Alpha platform to be eligible to support electric setup. Previously, the company officials have accepted to be working on Tata Punch EV and had not revealed any launch timeline. Though if the speculations come true, the Punch EV will be one of the affordable electric cars from the company.

5. Tata Sierra

The Tata Sierra EV concept has been shown back at the Auto Expo 2020 with some distinctive coupe-like design comprising just two doors. The Sierra EV will be an electric SUV based on Impact 2.0 design philosophy designed by the company. The rear portion of the SUV EV will be embodied with a glass roof extended to the sides. It will be more of a rugged design where its interior will not consist of any modern tech inclusions like an infotainment display. Rather, it will have a wooden tech shelf where users can use their personal devices.

6. Tata Curvv EV

Tata Currv has been shown last month in the country as a part of upcoming electric SUV concept cars. It will be the first vehicle from the brand to debut first as an electric car and later with ICE engines. It comes with a futuristic design including a coupe roofline, a panoramic sunroof, triangular design headlamps, and crisp streamlines all over the body. The interiors have minimalistic incorporation with spacious areas. It is expected to offer a range of 400-500km.

7. Tata Avinya EV

Tata Avinya EV is the next concept electric car from the local automobile maker that gets its name from Sanskrit meaning ‘Innovation’. Tata Motors has revealed to design the Evinya EV on GEN 3 architecture that is based on an all-electric platform. It is claimed to reach a distance range of 500km with 30 minutes of charging. The major design language includes butterfly doors, ultra-fine front grilles, ultra-slim OVRMs, and a panoramic sunroof extended to the windshield.

The two concept cars Tata Curvv and Tata Avinya are in a long queue to enter the mass production and are expected to debut by 2025. While the remaining Tata electric cars could debut sometime in late 2022 or earlier 2023.
