Samsung S21 users are encountering a green line issue after a recent software update. This problem is not new to Samsung, as similar occurrences were reported with the Galaxy S10 and S20 series in 2020. Despite Samsung’s reputation for exceptional displays, these incidents highlight that their displays are not immune to issues.

The green line problem, although not widespread for now, seems to have resurfaced with the Galaxy S21 series, particularly affecting the Galaxy S21 Ultra and Galaxy S21 FE. This recurrence has left users frustrated, as they believed the issue had been resolved, only to encounter it again.

What’s Causing the Green Line Issue

The culprit seems to be the April security patch that’s causing the display to heat up to an abnormal temperature leading to the green lines. However, another reason behind the green line could be a loose connection of the display to the motherboard or a faulty display connector.

Samsung’s Take on the Green Line Issue

The green line issue isn’t exclusive to Samsung phones. Many smartphone brands, especially OnePlus had widespread green line issues on several devices. The issue was mainly seen in brands using Samsung’s E3 and E4 AMOLED panels.

While companies like OnePlus acknowledged the issue and offered its customers coupons and exchange bonuses, Samsung has been mum on the issue. Affected users have always been left disappointed with Samsung’s take on the green line issue.

Adding to the frustration is the fact that the green line problem seems to manifest in devices that are already out of warranty, raising ethical concerns. For instance, affected Galaxy S21 FE users are being asked to pay INR 14,000 for a display replacement, a cost that users believe should be borne by Samsung, not them.

This situation is understandably infuriating for users, as they are not at fault for the display issue; rather, Samsung should be held accountable. The problem isn’t limited to the S21 FE; last year, several Galaxy S22 Ultra users faced a similar situation, being denied free replacements despite experiencing the issue.

The damage has been done. Users can document the green line issue with photos and videos to ensure they have evidence in case Samsung fixes the issue and offers free replacements in the future.
