TL; DR
  • Samsung plans Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 in 4G and 5G variants for broader appeal.
  • 4G model likely cheaper, sharing rugged design and health features with 5G sibling.
  • Summer launch expected, targeting fitness fans with tiered connectivity options.

The Korean tech giant Samsung might be cooking up a surprise for us with its upcoming smartwatch lineup. Leaks from IMEI trackers reveal that the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, successor to the original Galaxy Watch Ultra (review), wouldn’t launch as a lone wolf. Instead, Samsung might launch two versions of its Ultra smartwatch.

What’s The Real Difference Between The Watch Ultra Variants?

One version will support 5G connectivity, while the other will remain on 4G. Basically, the lineup could offer buyers connectivity choices that won’t have them second-guessing their decision. In my opinion, the former could be a better option for professional athletes, runners, hikers, or anyone seeking the best possible connectivity for real-time updates.

On the other hand, the regular 4G version could be a go-to choice for everyone else.

Why Split The Ultra Family Now?

Despite sharing identical frames, killer battery life, and plenty of health-monitoring sensors, there could be two versions of the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, targeted at different customer types. Speaking about the hardware, both the smartwatches could feature bright AMOLED screens, GPS precision, and that 10ATM water resistance for impromptu swims.

Pricing rumors suggest that the Watch Ultra 2’s 4G version could cost less than the 5G version, as it ideally should. If I were to speculate, there could be a difference of around Rs. 10,000 or $100 between the 4G and 5G versions. This way, the company could cater to a wider customer base.

Regarding the launch timeline, Samsung could unveil both the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 4G and the Watch Ultra 2 5G at the Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled for July 2026. Yes, the new smartwatches could break cover with the next-generation of Galaxy foldables.
