Samsung Galaxy S22 Series has been in the works for a while now and the launch is expected to happen sometime in February 2022. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Series will have multiple models- Samsung Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra. The series is expected to be the first to feature Qualcomm’s next gen-chipset when it gets launched. Latest reports suggest Samsung will be launching Galaxy S22 Ultra with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in India too.

Rnowned tipster Ice Universe (via Twitter) claimed that the company might release the Galaxy S22 Ultra on February 8, 2022. If this happens, there will be around 5 different flagship smartphones that would have been launched with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset by then. This would be a major change as Samsung has launched its recent flagships with Exynos chipsets, for example, the current Galaxy S21 Series features Exynos 2100 chipset.

Why Snapdragon 8 Gen1 SoC?

Ever since Qualcomm recently announced its newest flagship chipset called Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the race is on as to which company will become the first to bring out a smartphone with this SoC. Xiaomi is one name that is being tossed around in this race since the beginning as it is expected to bring Xiaomi 12 later this month. The others include Motorola Edge X30 and Realme GT 2 Pro and now it seems like Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has also joined the race.

The newly launched SoC is said to offer a boost in performance and efficiency. It has a 1+3+4 cluster and is based on a 4nm process.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Expected Specs

The smartphone is expected to sport a 6.8-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a quad-camera setup. It will have 5G connectivity and reportedly pack a 5000mAh battery under the hood. Galaxy S22 Ultra is expected to support fast charging and Qi wireless charging too.

The smartphone is equipped with a 108MP main camera along with 10MP, 10MP, and 12MP rear cameras. The 108MP sensor is a Samsung HM3 with a 1/1.33-inch ultra large bottom and an aperture of f/1.8. It is expected to offer Optical image stabilization.

In unrelated news, Samsung is working with AMD for its upcoming Exynos 2200 chipset for enhanced graphics and performance. Although the company hasn’t announced anything about the Exynos 2200 as of now, it is expected to host a virtual event to launch Exynos 2200 days before the Galaxy Unpacked event like it does every year. One of the devices of S22 Ultra was spotted on Geekbench too with Exynos 2200 and it scored 691 in single-core and 3167 in multi-core tests.

However, the latest reports claim that Samsung will heavily rely on Snapdragon SoCs in 2022. The company plans to launch more than 60 devices in 2022, nearly half of which are expected to come with Snapdragon chipsets. The main reason is the ongoing chip shortage.
