Samsung Galaxy M13 5G Review: Design

Samsung Galaxy M13 5G has a polycarbonate body with a plan rear panel and matte finish. We received the Midnight Blue colour variant for review and it looked decent. Although the smartphone has a matte finish it still catches smudges and fingerprints very easily. These smudges are even more visible when light falls on the device.

The smartphone has a waterdrop notch at the front along with noticeable bezels on all four sides. The rear panel has also undergone a minor change in design. This time, there is no camera module at the back but two flat rear cameras with separate rings around each lens. There is an LED flash in front of the lenses.

The Galaxy M13 5G has a fingerprint sensor at the side which also works as a power button. The volume rockers are also on the right edge. The left side has a SIM tray with 2 slots and 1 SD card slot. The bottom edge houses a speaker grille, USB Type-C port, and audio jack.

All in all, the design of the Galaxy M13 5G smartphone is mostly good according to its price point, but the phone could have been a little slimmer to give a more premium look and in-hand feel.

Samsung Galaxy M13 5G Review: Display

The Samsung Galaxy M13 5G sports a 6.5-inch HD+ display. The smartphone comes with a 90Hz refresh rate and 400 nits brightness. The brightness level makes sure that the screen is decently visible both indoors and outdoors. The only problem occurs when the sunlight is too harsh.

The colours on the display are good, although they are nowhere when compared to an AMOLED panel. However, at this price point expecting an AMOLED panel-like performance is really farfetched. The smartphone comes with eye comfort mode so that one’s eyes don’t get strained even after hours of continuous usage. The fresh rate is not adaptive but fixed. Also, the smartphone comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

Samsung Galaxy M13 5G Review: Camera

Samsung has now come down to having a dual camera setup on the rear instead of the quad camera setup that it used to provide earlier. The Samsung Galaxy M13 5G features a dual camera setup consisting of a 50MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and PDAF along with a 2MP depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture.

The main lens of the smartphone gives images with natural colors which look beautiful. If the lighting is decent, the images are captured with a good amount of detail. Zooming in on the image, one can see a good amount of detail if the image is captured in good lighting conditions.

The smartphone comes with a 10x zoom feature but the images start looking blurry as soon as you go beyond 2x zoom. The Galaxy M13 5G comes with features like Pro, Panorama, Food, and a Night mode that can be used to make photography fun.

The Galaxy M13 5G features a 5MP selfie camera at the front inside a waterdrop notch. The selfie lens clicks images with good color tones but there is very less detailing and a good amount of noise in these images clicked by the front camera.

Samsung Galaxy M13 5G Review: Performance

The Smartphone is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 700 chipset paired with 6GB RAM. The device comes with Samsung’s RAM Plus feature which means you can convert a part of the internal storage to extra RAM if needed. The M13 5G comes with 6GB virtual RAM. This makes its total possible RAM 12GB.

During our usage, there were no issues with the device. The smartphone works smoothly when multiple apps are opened simultaneously, videos are watched and all the daily usage tasks are carried out. The only downside is gaming performance, as the smartphone doesn’t offer a very good gaming experience. It is apt for light games like candy crush, temple run and more but heavy games don’t run smoothly. They lag or crash when played for long durations.

Coming to the software, the smartphone runs Android 12-based One UI 4. Although the interface of One UI 4 is clean and good this time Samsung has inserted loads of bloatware, which can be irritating. The smartphone contains apps like Snapchat, Moj, PhonePe, Taka Tak, Netflix, Dailyhunt, Twitter, Facebook, and more pre-loaded. The good thing is that these can be deleted if you don’t want them. The widget section contains an advertisement for Glance, but this one can’t be removed.

Samsung Galaxy M13 5G Review: Battery

The Galaxy M13 5G packs a 5000mAh battery under the hood. The battery when completely charged easily lasts for around 1.5 days. The smartphone has only 15W fast charging which can’t be called fast in today’s world where maximum brands are providing at least 33W charging speed even in their most affordable smartphones.

However, this time Samsung has provided this 15W charger bundled inside the box which is a huge thing, considering the fact that the company doesn’t provide chargers inside the box anymore. The 15W charger can recharge the phone from 0 to 100% in almost 2 hours.

Samsung Galaxy M13 5G Review Verdict: Should you buy it?

Samsung Galaxy M13 5G is the newest addition to the brand’s M-Series of smartphones. It comes at an affordable price of Rs. 13,999 and offers features like an HD+ display, 50MP primary camera, 5000mAh big battery, and more. The smartphone has Dimensity 700 chipset which works well and also the main camera clicks decent shots. Although the phone has loads of bloatware, that can be removed if you don’t want it. Also, if we look at the device considering its price point, the design could have been better and even the selfie lens could have been more usable. However, if you ignore these small niggles, then Galaxy M13 5G is a good smartphone for under the 15k price range as it provides good features with Samsung’s brand name at an affordable price.
