Samsung beats Apple and Xiaomi in latest Global smartphone market share numbers

Samsung, a South Korean multinational manufacturing conglomerate continues to to well in the smartphones business. It is one of the leading smartphone manufacturers in the world and the brand has maintained its stronghold in smartphone manufacturing by remaining at the top of the Global Smartphone manufacturing market for Q1 2022.

According to the report of the International Data Corporation, Samsung holds a 23.4% market share and shipments of 73.6 million units in Q1 of 2022 in the smartphone manufacturing market. Though overall all shipments are 1.2% less than what they were in Q1 of 2021, the brand still remains on top of the list.

Apple has grabbed the 2nd spot in the list with an 18% market share and total shipments of 56.6 million iPhones from January to March in 2022. Apple’s shipments have shown a growth of 2.2.% as compared to Q1 2021.

The next spots in the list are sealed by tech brands like Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo respectively. Xiaomi holds a 12.7% market share with 39.9 million shipments whereas Oppo holds an 8.7% market share with 27.4 million shipments. Vivo stands in 5th position with an 8.1% market share and 25.3 million shipments.

Just like Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo have also shown a decline in shipments from Q1 2021. Vivo has suffered the most with a decline of 27.7% followed by Oppo with a 26.8% drop and Xiaomi with a 17.8% decline.

Factors behind the decline in shipments

There are various factors that are being considered as the reason for the decline in shipments. These include supply chain issues for core components, reduced consumer demands because of the current economic crunch and global inflation, the Covid19 pandemic in various regions, and more.
