Design

The mask can be secured on the nose and mouth using a velcro patch attached at the back of the strap. Its straps are thick and do not rub against the cheeks. The mask is overall light in weight and does not slip down the face when the strap is secured.

It has a rubber slot, below which a USB port, an LED point, and power button are placed. The mask also has a rubber lining on the inner surface, that lets the mask sit in place and not slip easily. It is also because of the rubber that it does not hurt the skin while being on it. It has cutouts at the ears, from where the ears can stick out comfortably. It also has a mirror on its inner surface.

The outer surface of the mask can be cleaned with alcohol or soap. The Silicone part is removable and can be cleaned using alcohol, water, or hot water. The motor inside isn’t water resistant, so you shouldn’t wear the mask out in rains.

What we did not like about the mask was its bulkiness and the odour that it gave off. The maks smells of rubber, and the odor is really pungent. We recommend you try cleaning the insides by wiping with alcohol to get rid of it. In this price range, we’d have expected a better quality of rubber seal in the mask.

The Prana Air purifier mask fits in our average sized helmet but it didn’t feel very comfortable in there.

Focus Areas

The mask has two primary focus points- Particulate matter of size 0.3 micron and above and particulate matter of size P.M 2.5, which makes headlines especially post Diwali festival. This does not mean the particulate matter ceases to exist during the other parts of the year. It is the root cause of escalated respiratory problems and reduced visibility in cities.

Protection Layers

Prana Air, with its 6 layer technology, effectively gets rid of these particulates, with efficiency as high as 99.95 percent. The mask employs six layers of filters that can be changed from time to time.

The mask comes with N95 respirator, which is the most common type of particulate filtering face-piece respirators employed by pollution masks manufacturers. It filters off about 95% of airborne particles. Although, it is not resistant to oil. Its HEPA technology also effectively filters out pollutants.

Motorized Fan

Prana air has employed a motorized fan that can filter up to 6 liters of air per second. As soon as the fan is switched on, the LED point lights up in green color indicating the status of the mask.

The fan allows comfortable breathing environment inside the mask by letting in more air. It comes with three fan speeds. When the device is initially switched on, it works on the lowest fan speed. On gently pressing the power button once again, the fan speed increases to 5500 rpm. The highest fan speed can be achieved by pressing the power button twice after having switched the fan on. At its full speed, the fan makes 6500 rpm.

Battery

Prana Air Purifier Mask N95 Filter features a 600mAh lithium polymer battery that can work up to 6 hours in a single cycle of charging. The battery takes about 1.5 to 2 hours for full charging. The LED turns green when the battery capacity becomes full.

Prana Air Smart Air Purifying Mask Review: Should you buy it?

We like the idea of PranaAir smart air purifying mask but, in practice, it feels a bit overpriced. It’s not all bad, though. The Motor makes it easy to breath when you are wearing the mask and since it’s properly sealed, people who wear specs won’t have to worry about fogging them. The battery backup is good too.

However, overall the build feels cheap and flimsy and the comfort during prolonged usage is strictly average.
