Pepsi Set To Launch Its First Android Smartphone Next Week

Update 20-11-2015: Pepsi P1s has been officially introduced in China. You can visit our product page for detailed official specifications. The price is $110, good $100 less than what was previously anticipated. It makes a bit more sense now.

Further adding to the abundance of Android vendors, Pepsi will soon launch its own Android smartphone in China. Of course the company has no interest in entering the painfully competitive realms of manufacturing and selling smartphones, and thus it will be licensing its brand to a Chinese manufacturer, the same way all desi manufacturers do it.

Chinese blog Mobipicker reports that the new smartphone will be called Pepsi P1, and the specs include 5.5-inch full HD screen, 1.7 GHz MT6592 CPU (which is quite dated as of today), 13MP/5MP rear-front camera combo, 16GB storage and 3000mAh battery.

“Pepsi has always moved at the speed of culture, and today technology is a key cultural pillar at the heart of consumer interaction,” a Pepsi representative told ABC News. “Pepsi has no plans to get into the mobile phone manufacturing business, but we are committed to engaging with consumers in innovative ways to grow our brand. We’ll share more news as it becomes available.”

The idea is that you gawk at Pepsi label throughout your day, you will be tempted to buy one. The handset will cost around $210 and we don’t think that’s low enough to convince anyone to walk around with an advertisement through their day.
