Top OxygenOS 11 features and eligible device list

OnePlus has revealed its all-new Android 11-based software update aptly named HydrogenOS 11. For the unversed, HydrogenOS is just OxygenOS without Google Play Services. Hence, the new features unveiled today will be heading over to global OnePlus phones as OxygenOS 11 Open Beta pretty soon!

So, without any further ado, let’s uncover all there’s new to the OnePlus software experience.

Top OxygenOS 11 Features

1. Always-on Display

This one was a long time coming and since its finally here, OnePlus fans will appreciate it. Much like the overall OxygenOS experience, this one’s a fine improvement over your run of the mill Always-on implementation. You can set basically anything from a minimal clock to a notifier of your phone usage, or a line-drawing of any selected image. Swanky!

2. One-handed Accessibility

Anyone who has used the recent Samsung phones would be familiar with One UI’s one-handed UI approach. OnePlus borrows a leaf from Samsung here. What this means is that various menus and pre-installed apps will have the key UI elements aligned to the bottom. This will enable you to use the device one-handedly. And as phone screens are ever so increasing, this design choice should come handy.

3. Other Visual enhancements

Let’s quickly run down the little new visual changes:

  • Helvetica font
  • Refined dark mode, which is now compatible with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0. This will benefit visually impaired users.
  • New icons, ringtones, wallpapers, animations

Furthermore, there is a new community meditation feature within Zen Mode 2.0, and a Google Recorder-like live voice transcription feature, and under the hood optimizations, of course.

OxygenOS 11: When will your device get it?

OnePlus declares eight of its devices are going to get the update, although in a phased manner. Obviously, the rollout would be based on the recency of the phone launch dates.

The stable update will hit the devices as follows:

  • Mid-October 2020
    • OnePlus 8
    • OnePlus 8 Pro
  • Mid-December 2020
    • OnePlus 7T
    • OnePlus 7T Pro
    • OnePlus 7
    • OnePlus 7 Pro
    • OnePlus 6
    • OnePlus 6T

But in case you don’t want to wait, the OxygenOS 11 developer preview 3 update for OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro is available starting today. Not just that, the first public beta testing for these two handsets should begin from 8th September. Also, if you’re wondering why the Nord hasn’t made an appearance on the list, it’s simply because the phone hasn’t released in China. Anyway, it should probably receive updates alongside the OnePlus 8 series since its a new device.
