Oppo has been working on its first-ever chipset is no longer a secret. Yes, Oppo is all set to launch a self-developed application processor in 2023 that will be an important part of the SoC. Oppo’s chipset is expected to be based on 4nm fabrication of TSMC and the move if implemented successfully will pit Oppo against the likes of Samsung and Apple.

Currently, Oppo has an NPU which is called MariSilicon X. The NPU aids the main chipset in processing good quality images but Oppo having its own processor will allow the company to customize and make the chipset even better to compete with rivals. Currently, Samsung, Apple, and Google use their own custom SoCs on their smartphones. While Samsung has the Exynos range, Apple has A-series and Google has Tensor.

Reports claim that Oppo’s own chipset will not match the performance of Qualcomm or MediaTek Processors but still be sufficient for their own devices. First, oppo will use its chipset on lower-end devices and then move to higher flagship ones slowly. For now, Oppo uses processors from Qualcomm and MediaTek both.

Oppo claims that the design, IP rating, memory, and other things have been created by Oppo’s own teams after lots of expenses on R&D over the years. The Application Processor is expected to be ready by 2023, followed by SoC in 2024. Both will be mass-produced by TSMC.

In a related piece of news, Oppo is all set to launch the F21 Pro series and Oppo Enco Air 2 Pro TWS in India on April 12.
