After Google announced the Android 12 operating system, smartphone manufacturers are now launching their custom mobile OS based on the latest Android 12 version. Following the same trend, Oppo has announced ColorOS 12. It is the latest version of the company’s mobile OS based on Android 12. It is different from the earlier versions in terms of its design, display, functionality, and security features.

ColorOS 12 Features

ColorOS 12 has been launched by Oppo in China and it has got new and improved features. It has new tiles, new widgets, improved one-handed mode, notification settings, visual overhaul, new app pairs for split-screen, privacy improvements, and much more.

Borderless and Colorful Design

One of the most major changes in ColorOS 12 is the tweak in its design. Oppo calls its design to be a ‘Borderless Design’ now as it no longer uses borders for separating icons. Instead, an acrylic sheet is used to separate icons so the icons are also renamed to ‘Acrylic Icons’.

As the name suggests, the use of colors has increased in the ColorOS 12. There are different colors used to distinguish between different kinds of information. ColorOS 12 is now much more compatible with other smart devices too.

Smoother Animations

ColorOS 12 has ‘Quantum Animation Engine 3.0’. This engine makes swiping across the screen much more comfortable and responsive. The ‘AI Self Smooth Engine 2.0’ reduces power consumption by 20% and increases battery life by 12%.

The read-aloud function and real-time translation option of foreign languages make the sidebar even more smarter.

Shared Atlas 2.0

With the help of the feature called ‘Shared Atlas 2.0’, users can now share multiple images at a time from any device through ColorOS 12.

Cross-Screen Interconnection

Cross-Screen Interconnection allows users to drag and drop to share files between any of their PCs and smartphones with a fast speed. This feature also supports screen mirroring, clipboard sharing, and screenshot sharing. is similar to Huawei’s Multi-Screen Collaboration. Several new features are also expected to be adopted by Oppo from Chinese Android skins, including the likes of MIUI from Xiaomi.

Omoji

OMOJI is digital avatars introduced by Oppo. They can be used in video calls, texts, etc. More about this feature is currently unknown.

Car+

The Car+ feature offers navigation, calls, music, video, and voice control on the move.
