Well, in terms of innards and user experience the phone is exactly the same as the recently launched OnePlus 5T. There is no significant difference between the regular OnePlus 5T and the OnePlus 5T Star Wars edition. Even a comma didn’t change on the specs-sheet. It also rocks a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 mobile processor, Adreno 540 GPU, 8GB RAM and 128GB UFS 2.1 storage. It boots Oxygen OS 4.7 which is based on Android 7.1 Nougat.

What Works in the OnePlus 5T Star Wars Collector’s Edition:

Apparently, OnePlus with this Star Wars edition is appealing to the die-hard fans of the franchise. Everything from the packaging to the skinned software running on the phone screams two things: Star Wars and premium-ness.  The box has a classy “Star Wars: The Last Jadi“ logo. On Opening up the box, you will be greeted by the phone itself, which is contrasted by a black lid.Pop-out the first lid and you will find a custom-made Kylo Ren case, a greeting card for Star Wars fans, regular dash charger, data cable, usual user manuals, OnePlus – Star Wars Stickers, and a hidden goodie.

Unlike the regular OnePlus 5T which comes with a clean and slippery back given a matte black finish, the Star Wars OnePlus 5T edition has a rear panel inspired form salt planet called ‘Crait’. It has matte white rear which been given a sandstone-like white finish which offers far better grip than the original OnePlus 5T.

The back panel also features a metallic black OnePlus logo and an emblem of Star Wars in appealing red color (Red Mineral). The mineral red alert slider further compliments the new look. The fascia is all black and so are the sim tray, power button, and volume rocker.

The bundled muscular Kylo Ren case might not fascinate those who are not adherent fans but its premium build quality and sheer in hand feel will appeal to all users. In fact, the grip is even better than other official case options available for the OnePlus 5T. Despite its chunky size, the alert sider is more accessible than it is in other official OnePlus 5T cases. Also, deftly positioned contours facilitate gratifying feedback for power key and volume rocker.

What else impressed us about this phone is the Star Wars theme and wallpapers that OnePlus has added to the Oxygen OS. This limited edition phone boots up with Star Wars theme which has a red colour accent and certainly looks awesome. Apart from this, ‘The Last Jedi’ movie inspired wallpapers also compliments the theme. (OnePlus 5T owners can now download these wallpapers as well).

The are no complaints when it comes to performance. Like the original OnePlus 5T, this new Star Wars goodness relies upon a combination of the Snapdragon 835 chipset and 8GB of RAM which ensures everything sails smooth without any hiccups. It houses a full HD AMOLED panel which we found bright, vibrant and with characteristic deep AMOLED blacks. it’s 18:9 aspect ratio makes it a treat to consume content on the go.

What’s not so cool about the OnePlus 5T Star Wars Limited Edition:

Well, though OnePlus has done a lot to make it look inspired by Star Wars, it could have done more. Star Wars icon packs, Star Wars theme based ringtone would have delighted ardent Star Wars fans.

A 6GB RAM variant of this Star Wars limited edition would have been awesome too. That would have given buyers of the 6GB RAM variant a white color option too. Lastly, the choice of white color. Even though the phone looks super sexy in a white shade is likely to lose its sheen and get dirty pretty quickly. These are minor grouces though and aren’t dealbreakers by any measure.

OnePlus 5T Star Wars Edition Review: Is It Worth It?

OnePlus has priced the 5T Star Wars Edition at Rs 38,999 which makes it most expensive OnePlus phone in India. The extra 1000 bucks is well justified if you are a Star Wars fan or if you consider that OnePlus bundles a good quality case in the box.

Those OnePlus fans who really enjoyed on OnePlus’s Sandstone finish and always hoped for similar sandstone back on the OnePlus 5T should also find the Star Wars edition to be a better option. Remaining OnePlus fans can opt for the regular OnePlus 5T 6GB+64GB or 8GB+128gb options priced at 32,999 INR and 37,999 INR, respectively.
