Motorola has stuck to its clamshell-like design for foldable devices ever since it launched its 1st foldable in 2003. In 2022, Moto Razr 2022 comes with 2 displays, one inner folding display that is exclusive to China while the other one is a rollable display that has been showcased during the ongoing MWC 2023. The brand has called this new concept ‘Rizr’ and while it is still in the concept stage, it surely gives us a hint at what’s the future.

A Twitter user Ben Wood claims that the Moto Rizr is still in the conceptual stage, though it is a functional working concept as seen at the unveiling. The smartphone hasn’t been finalized yet but insiders are calling it Rizr as it goes with the sliding form factor of the older feature phone. Some hands-on demoes have been given, but other than that Motorola has not revealed much about the specs of the prototype.

Rizr has been showcased at MWC 2023 wherein it is seen with a 5-inch POLED display with a 15:9 aspect ratio that can expand to 6.5 inches when needed. The part of the display that is not in use when rolled up is claimed to wrap around the bottom and slide up on the back over the rear panel. When it is flipped, the rolled-up display is said to double up as a secondary display that can be used for showing notifications, just like the outer display on a regular clamshell is.

The software has been customized to take advantage of the foldable display and the interface is expected to stretch and change depending on the state of the display. It is reportedly smart enough to adapt depending on the content being viewed or the app being used.

The rollable display is said to be driven by a small motor that takes up space in the phone and this is the reason the battery is kept 3000mAh only. The device is quite thick and weighs 210 grams. There are 2 cameras at the back and a selfie camera along with a speaker grille and sensors get revealed when the rollable display on the front drops even further while placing calls or clicking selfies.
