Update: Moto has confirmed 3000mAh battery for the new Z2 Play

Arguably the most enticing feature of the Moto Z Play was its long lasting battery. It wasn’t as slim and slick as the high-end Moto Z, but the battery convenience made it a worthy mid-range option for anyone not particularly taken in by its modular chops.

The next-gen Moto Z2 Play, however, will have a relatively modest 3000 mAh battery (vs 3510 on original Z Play), but will also be a hair slimmer at 6mm (vs 7mm) and a tad lighter at 145 grams (vs 165 grams).

The marketing material that @evleaks got hold of shows maximum battery endurance reduced to 30 hours from 50 hours in the original Z Play. That looks like a rather steep hit for a near 15 percent reduction in battery capacity. At the same time, its entirely plausible that a slimmer, more attractive Moto Z2 Play would retail better.

The new Moto Z Play will also see other upgrades too. It will reportedly be powered by 2.2GHz Snapdragon 626 octa-core processor paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. The software will be latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat with a few light additions sprinkled on top.

For photography, the bulging rear camera module will reportedly house a 12MP Sony IMX362 sensor with dual LED flash, dual pixel AF and f/1.7 aperture optics. On the front, Moto is said to be using a 5MP selfie shooter.

Other features include a Fingerprint sensor, dual SIM card support, 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, and NFC. And yes, you will be able to clip Moto Mods to it using those gold pogo pins on the rear.

Considering the latest set of rumors, a slew of Moto devices are already in the pipeline. These include Moto Z2, Moto Z2 Force, Moto Z2 Play, Moto E4, Moto E4 Plus, Moto C and Moto C Plus. We can expect all of the above to officially unveil in Q3 and Q4 2017.
