MG Hector Tomahawk Launched in India With EV and PHEV Options, Starting at ₹13.99 Lakh

After weeks of rumors and speculation, JSW-MG has revealed the Hector Tomahawk, a three-row SUV that, unlike any other mass-market SUV on offer in the country, lets buyers choose between not just two powertrains, but two ownership philosophies. The Hector Tomahawk is available as an EV (with BaaS option) and a PHEV. Details about the pricing and availability are out as well, so without any further ado, let’s dive right in.

Hector Tomahawk: Pricing & Availability

The Hector Tomahawk EV starts at ₹13.99 (ex-showroom) as part of the company’s Battery-as-a-Service plan, wherein the cost of the battery is divided into monthly installments as you drive the car. However, you can pay ₹19.49 lakh if you’d rather own the battery upfront. 

On the other hand, the PHEV sits considerably higher in the price ladder. It opens at ₹21.79 lakh (BaaS) and ₹25.69 lakh (outright), both of which are ex-showroom prices. It’s worth mentioning that these are introductory prices tied to limited unit availability. Bookings are open now; EV deliveries and test drives begin in September, with the PHEV following in November.

Design: A Familiar Silhouette Sharpened At The Edges

The Tomahawk doesn’t try to disguise its Hector lineage. Up front, there’s a blacked-out grille with chrome inserts, sharp LED DRLs, along with sequential turn indicators. The sides pick up new 18-inch dual-tone alloys, while the rear features slimmer LED taillamps and integrated fog lights.

Step inside and the changes get more interesting. Buyers can choose between five- and seven-seat layouts. Like other MG cars, this one also gets a segment-leading 15.6-inch touchscreen, paired with an 8.7-inch driver display and a “Desert Squadron” interior theme that’s a genuine departure from typical SUV cabin language. Ventilated front seats, a six-way powered driver’s chair with memory function, 256-color ambient lighting, and a 10-speaker Infinity sound system round out a cabin that’s full of must-have and good-to-have features.

Powertrain: Two Very Different Answers To Range Anxiety

The EV runs a 69.2kWh LFP pack through a single motor, producing 201bhp and 310Nm for a claimed 517km range and an 8.2-second sprint to 100kmph. The PHEV takes the opposite approach entirely: a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a modest 20.5kWh battery, good for 198bhp, 230Nm, and just 115km of EV-only range. The main highlight here is the 40 kmpl mileage.

Safety And The Competition It’s Walking Into

Standard safety kit spans Level 2 ADAS, six airbags, ESP, traction control, hill-hold, and an electronic parking brake, alongside a 360-degree camera system with a transparent chassis view. MG is also throwing in Vehicle-to-Load and Vehicle-to-Home functionality, the latter a genuine first for any car sold in India.
