MediaTek Dimensity 700 goes official

MediaTek has announced an array of Dimensity chips for both budget phones and Chromebooks. The one for the phones is named Dimensity 700. And if you’re wondering, yes the Taiwanese brand had released another mass-market 5G chip by the name Dimensity 720 a few months back.

So, let’s see what this new silicon has to offer.

MediaTek Dimensity 700 Highlights

Dimensity 700 is based on a 7nm node with 8 cores, comprising 2x Cortex-A76 CPU cores clocked at 2.2Ghz and 6x Cortex-A55 efficiency cores.

The design also houses Arm’s Mali-G57 MC2 GPU, 2133MHz LPDDR4X RAM, and UFS 2.2 dual-channel storage.

On the 5G side, you are getting an integrated modem with downlink speed claims of up to 2.77Gbps and 2CC carrier aggregation. There is support for dual 5G SIMs and UltraSave technology for improved power efficiency. MediaTek also underlined features like

  • 48MP or 64MP single camera support with AI enhancements, better noise reduction in low-light photos
  • 90Hz refresh rate support
  • FHD+ support
  • Support for prominent voice assistants

MediaTek says phones with the new chipset will arrive in Q1, 2021, priced at $250 (~₹18,600) and lower. It also teased an upcoming update to its Dimensity 1000 series featuring a 6nm architecture, Cortex-A78 CPU clocked at 3Ghz frequency.

MT8195 and MT8192 for Chromebooks

Lastly, the company also brought out two new processors for Chromebooks, namely MT8195 and MT8192.

MT8195 is the premium one of the two sporting 4x Cortex-A78 performance and 4x Cortex-A55 efficiency cores (on 6nm fabrication), along with an in-house APU 3.0 (with up to 4 trillion operations per second), Mali-G57 GPU, and four-lane LPDDR4X RAM. It also supports up to three simultaneous displays, Dolby Vision 7.1 surround sound, and AV1 hardware video decoder.

Next up, we have the MT8192 (7n’m) consisting of 4x Cortex-A76 and 4x Cortex-A55), coupled with Mali-G57 MP5 GPU, and APU 2.0 (with up to 2.4 TOPS). You also get support for two displays simultaneously — WQHD display with 60Hz refresh rate or FHD+ screen with a 120Hz refresh rate.

Now the Chromebooks powered by MT8195 will hit the shelves in Q2 2021, while the ones with MT8192 will launch “later” in the year.
