TL; DR
  • Lumio has launched the Project Neo beta, allowing users to control their TVs via WhatsApp and Instagram.
  • You can search by title, mood, or forward a Reel to identify and play content directly.
  • Project Neo supports English, Hindi, and Hinglish, and is exclusive to Lumio TVs and projectors.

Lumio has launched a public beta of a content discovery feature called Project Neo, which lets you control what plays on your Lumio TV or projector simply by sending a WhatsApp message or forwarding an Instagram Reel.

The feature is built into the company’s TLDR App and can be accessed via a Google Play Store update. If you saw something interesting on your phone, perhaps a clip of a sci-fi or rom-com movie that you found interesting, you can simply send it to your TV or projector and watch it when you sit down after a long day at work.

How Does Project Neo Actually Work?

Instead of navigating across multiple OTT apps via the remote (especially with the arrow keys), you can type what you want in plain language and send it through WhatsApp or Instagram. Queries can be as specific as a title or director’s name, or as vague as a mood.

If you spotted a trailer in a Reel someone sent you, just forward it to Project Neo, and it will identify the show or film and queue it on the screen. The feature currently supports English, Hindi, and Hinglish.

Kailash Sankaranarayanan, Co-Founder and COO of Circuit House Technologies, put it plainly: “WhatsApp and Instagram are where India already types, chats, and shares, so that’s where Neo lives too. You just say what you are in the mood for, or forward the reel, and it is on your screen.”

Project Neo is currently exclusive to Lumio Vision TVs and Lumio Arc Projectors via the TLDR App.
