Apple is working towards developing a state-of-the-art MR/AR ecosystem. With the rumors on Apple’s mixed reality (MR) headset getting aggressive, folks at The Elec have learned that LG Display is contesting for developing and manufacturing microOLED panels. LG Display will presumably order deposition equipment from Sunic System.

LG Display could manufacture microOLED panels for Apple MR devices

According to various reports, Sony Display will take care of the microOLED panel for Apple’s first-ever MR device. With that being said, South Korea-based LG could be taking care of the outer screen on the MR headset also dubbed as an indicator.

Further, LG Display is expected to manufacture microOLED panels for Apple’s next-gen of MR devices in case this ever becomes true. We aren’t sure about when the MR gadget will arrive although there are a lot of sources that mention it will arrive by the end of this year.

Moving ahead, microOLED panels that we are talking about can simply mount on glasses whereas an OLED panel mounts on a silicon substrate first. Apple could be using microOLED panels from LG as the current partner Sony is likely a competitor in the gaming sphere thanks to its dominance in the gaming consoles. This is probably the reason why Apple could be prompted to go through with LG Display which is a well-known partner at Apple in developing displays for its iPhones and other devices.
