Reliance Jio will launch its portable wireless internet service, Jio AirFiber, on September 19, 2023. The service will provide high internet speed for seemingly smaller setups. With features like parental controls, support for Wi-Fi 6, and an inbuilt firewall, Jio AirFiber could be the next big thing in high-speed internet services. Here’s everything you should know about Jio AirFiber.

What Is Jio AirFiber?

First and foremost, readers should know that Jio AirFiber combines a hardware unit and wireless internet service. In other words, getting AirFiber will give users a portable unit that relays data from point-to-point radio links and the data service it usually provides.

Think of the service as a mobile Wi-Fi router that delivers “fiber-like speed over the air without any wires,” implying that users don’t need to connect AirFiber with a wired connection or insert a SIM card to access the internet.

Jio AirFiber: Speed, Connectivity, And Price

In an FAQ published on the official website, Jio details that the router unit features plug-and-play functionality for creating personal hotspots in a home or office. Speaking of personal hotspots, the Jio AirFiber claims to provide internet speeds of up to 1.5 Gbps, 50% more than what Jio Fiber provides.

However, the average internet speed, often lower than what service providers claim, is unclear. Further, the distance between the nearest towers and the router unit could affect the speed users get. Since Jio Fiber relies on wired connections, nationwide coverage has always been an issue for the company. However, with AirFiber, Jio might be able to solve that issue, as it provides coverage in almost all regions in the country.

Regarding AirFiber’s price, the service could initially cost around Rs. 6,000. However, we’re yet to learn whether users would have to get a monthly plan or the company will charge a one-time fee.
