TL;DR

  • The Taiwanese chip manufacturer is planning to release another ‘+’ variant of its 2024 chipset.
  • Along with the processor’s name, Digital Chat Station also claims it will power three Oppo flagships in the first half of the next year.

After releasing the Dimensity 9300 SoC in 2023, MediaTek came up with a slightly overclocked version of the processor, Dimensity 9300+ (which came out in 2024). And it wasn’t the first time a manufacturer launched a more powerful version of its flagship processor. Before this, we’ve seen Qualcomm re-release its top-tier chipset in a new avatar, with the “For Galaxy” suffix added to the name and a slightly higher prime core frequency.

Dimensity 9400+ SoC Could Offer A Minor Performance Boost

Oppo Find X8 And Find X8 Pro With Dimensity 9400 SoC, 4,500 Nits Screen, And Up To 50MP Quad Camera Setup Launched In India

The Taiwanese chip manufacturer is planning to release another ‘+’ variant of its 2024 chipset. According to renowned Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, MediaTek is working on the Dimensity 9400+ SoC with a slightly higher clock speed than the original variant. Further, the chipset could also have a more capable APU and GPU.

If that happens, the Dimensity 9400+ will be able to bridge the gap between the regular version and the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC (which currently had a lead in terms of clock speed). For those catching up, the prime cores on the Snapdragon 8 Elite come with a clock speed of 4.32GHz, significantly faster than that of the 3.63GHz prime core on the Dimensity 9400.

Dimensity 9400+ Could Power Oppo’s 2025 Flagships

Along with the processor’s name, Digital Chat Station also claims it will power three Oppo flagships in the first half of the next year. These handsets will ship in the following sizes: 6.3-inch, 6.6-inch, and 6.8-inch. However, that is the extent of the information shared by the tipster. In the Weibo post, the tipster mentions, “At present, it seems that the X8 will be equipped with the Dimensity 9400+ chip.” This part remains unclear, as the Oppo Find X8 is already available with the Dimensity 9400 SoC.

Either way, a Dimensity 9400+ must arrive sometime in 2025. Given that the jump between the Dimensity 9300 and the Dimensity 9300+ only entailed the overclocking of the prime core by 0.15GHz, we should expect to see a similar improvement from the Dimensity 9400 to the Dimensity 9400+. Building up on that calculation, the Dimensity 9400+ could reach around 3.8GHz. However, nothing can be said with surety at the moment. Hence, readers should take the rumor with a pinch of salt.
