Back in June 2023, Google started a rather humorous ad campaign titled “BestPhonesForevere,” a clever play on the phrase “best friends forever.” In the campaign, Google depicts a Pixel phone and an iPhone as friends, talking about each other’s qualities. The unique style has made this one of the most popular campaigns by Google. The California-based company released another episode on Thursday, creating hype ahead of the October 4 Pixel 8 launch event.

Scary Story – The Latest “BestPhonesForever” Episode

The latest addition to the campaign is named “Scary Story,” and it begins with the Pixel phone telling iPhone about the legend of a keypad phone and how some have heard its “click-clacking” sounds in the woods. In the background, a bright, shining moon and the dark, dense forest add to the overall build-up. As the Pixel phone ends the story, the iPhone expresses how it is scared, not about the story, but about the Pixel 8 launch event.

The iPhone then tells the Pixel phone that people will talk about its “ground-breaking AI features” and “eye-catching design.” At this point, the Pixel phone hears a click in the woods. The iPhone then tells how it’s worried about the upcoming comparisons between the phones and that it should not affect their friendship. When the Pixel phone highlights that the iPhone just had a launch event, the latter replies that it just got a different mute button, a “dynamic-er island, and a new charging port,” and what if the Pixel 8’s launch is “more in-in-innovative.”

At the end of the video, the Pixel phone says that no launch is bigger than their friendship, reinforcing the central idea behind the campaign. This is when a zombie keypad phone shows up, scaring both phones. The video then shows a Google Pixel 8, which will carry “scary cool updates.” Given Google’s frequency of uploading such videos, there’s a good chance this is the last one before the Pixel 8 series launch. We might see another video after the Pixel 8 and the Pixel 8 Pro comes out.

This video, like others in the campaign, is bold in that it depicts the iPhone and the Pixel phones having a conversation together. Some videos have already garnered over 50 million views, which shows how much people like it. So far, Apple has been taking the series sportingly. Nonetheless, it increases expectations from the upcoming Pixel launch. It will be interesting to see how innovative the Pixel 8 series is and what ground-breaking AI features it comes with.
