Apple’s latest iPhone 15 series has been generating significant buzz, not only for being the tech giant’s newest flagship phones but also for grappling with noteworthy hardware and software concerns. Among these concerns, a prominent one that has raised eyebrows among users is the overheating problem seen in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Apple has taken swift action to address this issue with the release of the iOS 17.0.3 update. However, another issue has now surfaced, one that involves speaker problems and appears to affect all four iPhone 15 models, not just the Pro and Pro Max.

iPhone 15 Cracking Sound Issue

iPhone 15 users are voicing their concerns about a persistent crackling sound issue that emerges when calls are made on speaker mode at high volumes or when playing music exceeding 80 percent volume. This issue was initially reported on Reddit by an iPhone 15 Pro Max user, who described the sound as akin to that of a “liquid-damaged blown speaker at high volumes.” Notably, this user had their unit replaced, only to encounter the same issue, and in some instances, it seemed to be even more pronounced.

Upon delving into the comments section of this Reddit post, numerous other iPhone 15 Pro Max users have come forward with similar complaints. Interestingly, the problem doesn’t seem limited to just the Pro Max variant, as one reply suggests that it may also be affecting iPhone 15 Plus users. One Reddit user has posited a theory regarding the root cause of this issue, suggesting that it may be linked to the diminutive earpiece speaker opening on the iPhone 15 models. This theory postulates that the small opening may not allow for sufficient airflow, leading to the crackling sound when the volume is pushed to higher levels.

Evidently, the problem isn’t an isolated incident but appears to be impacting a substantial number of iPhone 15 users, including those who have recently acquired their devices directly from Apple. Regardless of the underlying cause, it’s certainly far from ideal to have your brand-new iPhone 15 produce audio that resembles what one might expect from lower-quality speakers.

Regarding the issue at hand, Apple has not officially acknowledged it as of now. However, there is an expectation that Apple will address this problem through a forthcoming software update. Whether this issue is rooted in hardware for the iPhone 15 models remains uncertain. It’s worth noting that Apple recently rolled out the iOS 17.0.3 update, which includes a fix for the iPhone 15 Pro’s overheating concerns, demonstrating the company’s commitment to resolving issues swiftly.
