Apple’s highly anticipated developer conference, WWDC 2023, is set to take place on June 5, and tech enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the announcements about the company’s upcoming hardware and software developments. However, ahead of the event, rumors about the next iPhone lineup have already started circulating.

According to reports, Apple is expected to launch its next iPhone series in September, and all models in the iPhone 15 series are anticipated to feature Apple’s USB-C charging port. While this news is already exciting for many Apple fans, a recent Twitter post by a user named analyst941 has taken things up a notch. The post claims that the USB-C ports in iPhone 15 Pro models will be Thunderbolt 3 ports, which will be able to work with 4K monitors.

Thunderbolt 3 ports can offer speeds of up to 40 gigabits per second (Gbps), equivalent to 5,000 megabytes per second (MBps). This is a considerable improvement over the speed offered by the Lighting port currently available on all iPhone models, which is limited to USB 2.0 speeds, allowing data transfer at a speed of 480 megabits per second or 60 MBps. The tweet also suggests that the new port will be able to output to monitors at up to 4K and that iOS 17 will come with “special Thunderbolt 4 features” that will leverage this ability.

The post goes on to explain that this new feature will enable users to connect their iPhone 15 Pro models to monitors to extend their workspace. Furthermore, with multi-display support, users will be able to output a game or movie to a standard monitor or TV without Apple TV or AirPlay.

Apart from the raw speed benefits of Thunderbolt 3, iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max users are likely to be able to back up and restore their phones in a shorter time. They will also be able to transfer heavier ProRAW photography and ProRES video files faster.

While these are just rumors at the moment, many Apple enthusiasts are excited about the possibility of the new features, which would take the iPhone to a whole new level of performance and productivity. It remains to be seen what Apple will officially announce at WWDC 2023, but the tech world is definitely buzzing with anticipation.
