Internet Telephony To Become Reality, Soon You Can Make Calls Using WiFi Network

0

Soon you won’t have to face the issue of call drops in a poor network connectivity areas as Government approves internet telephony in India. It will allow smartphone users to place calls using broadband’s WiFi connection.

The plan was proposed by TRAI in October, which says that telecom operators such as Airtel, Reliance Jio, Vodafone, BSNL etc. who have the Internet Telephony license can offer their subscribers alternative numbers to make calls over WiFi. The number will be virtual, and people won’t be needing a SIM.

Internet Telephony: How It Works

The Internet Telephony will benefit areas where network connectivity is limited and often face issues while calling. The upcoming service can be availed by downloading the mobile phone app from respective telecom operators.

Arvind Kumar, the advisor at TRAI, explained how it will work. The app will serve as an alternative to the SIM-card, which will include a 10-digit mobile number just like the regular telephone number. He said, “For example, you may be using an Airtel SIM for your existing telecom needs, but may later download a Jio internet telephony app for which you will get a new and different number. This app can be used to make calls using broadband.”

For long, the government has been trying to solve annoying call drop issues in the country. And Internet telephony could be the key to that door. The new plan might come close to eradicating the immediate concerns of poor network connectivity and frequent call drops experienced by users across the country.
