Infinix, an online sub-brand of Transsion Holding, has been steadily making some ground for itself in the highly competitive Indian smartphone space. Infinix has launched two new smartphones Zero 5 and Zero 5 Pro, which are aggressively priced at Rs. 17,999 and Rs. 19,999 respectively.

To put things in perspective, with these phones Infinix is stepping up from lower budget phones to mid-range segment. Both these phones will be challenging competitors like Huawei Honor 9i, Vivo V7 Plus, and Oppo F5 in India.

They will go on sale exclusively on Flipkart starting from noon November 22. Recently, we got to take them for a spin at the global launch and here are our Infinix Zero 5 first impression.

Also Read: Umang App: Everything You Need to KnowThe first thing we noticed about the Infinix Zero 5 was its impressive build quality and premium finish given to the phone. The phone doesn’t have anything particularly impressive in terms of design (or design labels) that stands out but the color options that Infinix brings on to the table make it exciting enough. The phone is offered in standard gold, black and Red color (termed as Bordeaux Red) which in my opinion has more jazz to it.

The phone is predominantly made of metal with subtle curves at the corners that give it a comfortable grip. It is slightly on the heavier side in terms of weight, understandably so, due to its large display real estate. The fascia of the phone stars a 5.98-inch full HD IPS screen which gets a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and a pre-installed screen protector. The display is bright and even when I tested it against direct sunlight, all content was easily visible. It appears to be sharp and vibrant.

Lets now talk about what’s inside the phone. The handset rocks a MediaTek Helio P25 octa-core SoC paired with 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM. On paper, it certainly means performance wouldn’t be an issue for the users. During my limited time with the phone, I didn’t run into any performance hiccups.

Infinix is shipping Zero 5 with Android Nougat with custom XOS 3.0 Hummingbird UI on top. The company is promising one android upgrade and it’ll most likely be Android Oreo (fingers crossed).

There are a couple of apps such as Facebook and WhatsApp preloaded on the phone. Apart from that, there are few features like Freezer option, password protection and few more. During my limited time with the phone, we didn’t notice any issues with the UI and found it to be fairly smooth.

Infinix is pinning a lot of hopes on its dual rear camera setup. The Zero 5 flaunts 12-megapixel wide angle sensor with a 13-megapixel telephoto lens shooter to offer features like Optical Zoom, Portrait mode, and  a deft Professional mode.It has a 16-megapixel front-facing camera sensor which also has a software powered portrait mode.

We are yet to test it in its full glory but initial few shot that we captured turned out to be decent enough. We’d still reserve our verdict till we are done with our full review.

Infinix Zero 5 First Impression

The Zero 5 has a lot of things working in its favor. Its sheer display size makes it a good option for media consumption, but also restricts it as a phone meant for select few who prefer big phones. Its build quality, hardware used, and initial camera impressions give us high hopes. The Zero 5 and Zero 5 Pro will be formidable competitors to phones like Mi Max 2, Honor 9i, Moto X4, and Oppo F5. At the same time, we will have to wait some more to know for sure if we can recommend these.
