Huawei Signs Lionel Messi As its Global Brand Ambassador

Don’t be amazed if you see Barcelona icon Lionel Messi pitching Huawei smartphones on your TV sets or on billboards on your way home. The Chinese telecom hardware and smartphone maker Huawei has signed up Argentina football team captain and FIFA ballon d’or 2015 winner Lionel Messi as its Global Brand Ambassador.

The formal announcement of this deal between soccer star and telecom giant was made public in Spanish capital city Barcelona. Some of the reports suggest that for this deal Huawei will be shelling out €8 million annually.

The world’s third largest smartphone manufacturer aims to indulge in a long-term partnership with world’s highest ranked soccer player. As per the company, Messi inspires millions around the world with his passion and strive for excellence, which encouraged them for this partnership.

“Lionel Messi will help our brand to encourage people to focus, persevere and breakthrough; to connect with greatness, especially in Europe, Asia, and Latin America, where Huawei puts great devotions. We both honor the path we walked to what we have achieved, and with each new challenge we renew our commitment to find the path to success.” said Kevin Ho, President, Handset Business, Huawei Consumer BG.

The football superstar too was present at the time of announcement. On the occasion, `Messi said: “You have to fight to reach your dream. You have to sacrifice and go all in, always looking forward to achieving greatness. The day you think there are no improvements to be made, you have to keep working for reaching other achievements.”

Honor India Consumer Businesses President Allen Wang also welcomed Messi inclusion in what they call as Huawei Family. “We are happy to announce our collaboration with an extraordinary individual who inspires people all over the world to pursue their dreams, to face challenges to become better with each day. Just like our brand which strives for excellence and innovates to better itself to reach newer heights of greatness, Messi is the epitome of perseverance, excellence and commitment.” He said in his official statement.
