DxOMark, a website that provides image quality ratings for standalone cameras, lenses, and more, has lately been the hippest source for ranking your smartphone cameras. Currently, one smartphone holds the highest rank and it’s not an iPhone, Pixel or Samsung. It’s the Huawei Mate 20 Pro.

The ranking platform acknowledges Mate 20 Pro as a Triple-Cam Juggernaut. This is not the first time a Huawei smartphone has topped the charts. Another Huawei smartphone – the P20 Pro ties with the highest 109 score with the 2018 flagship Mate 20 Pro. By all odds, this is an applaudable achievement as it has beat the likes of the Google Pixel 3, the iPhone XS Max, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, and other popular picks.

Test Highlights

In Photography, it shares the same score of 114 points with P20 Pro while there are not on the same page in case of videography. Huawei P20 scores 98 points and is ahead than Mate 20’s videography score of 97 points.

In the still photography section, the phone is praised for better metering, good exposure, noise-reduction, pleasing white balance, and fine zooming capabilities. Rendering of color did well in their tests but the phone has to work in detail rendering especially in unfavorable lighting conditions and bokeh mode.

Coming to video segment, the phone shines with more pros justifying its rank. Video stabilization works well while held steady. So, the camera can’t be relied upon while you are indoors or in motion. The pros and cons in terms of exposure, white balance, colors, and noise-reduction translates to videography too.
