The gaming industry is at a boom, and we are getting to see multiple changes every now and then to enhance the gaming experience of the users. The role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in upgrading technologies like AMD FSR and NVIDIA DLSS allows gamers to enjoy their favorite titles at high frame rates and resolutions with a negligible downgrade in image quality. These technologies are helping gamers as they don’t need to burn a hole in their pocket to purchase a dedicated graphics processing unit (GPU).

A major highlight in the same direction is that the super-resolution can also be used to stream video content. The Tensor cores that fuel all your high-capacity gaming titles can now easily skyrocket your video streaming experience too. If you are someone who already possesses an RTX 30 or RTS 40 series GPU, you can upgrade the lower-resolution web videos to 4K via the VSR technology. Moving further in this article, we will explain how you can do the same and what the requirements are.

Working with NVIDIA Video Super Resolution (VSR)

As mentioned by NVIDIA, the VSR technology or the Video Super Resolution ameliorates the quality of the video one is watching. The improvement works on multiple factors instead of only working on feature sharpening and edge detection. The VSR tech works on a Deep Learning Network that analyzes lower-resolution videos and makes a prediction regarding the output according to the target resolution. After that, the system superimposes the predicted results on top of the original copy to eradicate any artifacts. Additionally, it also works on sharpening the images to produce high-quality output.

NVIDIA VSR system requirements

To take leverage of the NVIDIA Video Super Resolution (VSR) system, you need to make sure that the below-mentioned points are fulfilled.

  • The NVIDIA RTX VSR technology only works with RTX 30 and RTX 40 series GPUs. Apart from that, NVIDIA is also planning to introduce the same support for NVIDIA 20-series graphics processing units. However, as of now, you need to have the GPU from the 30 or the 40 series to use the VST tech by NVIDIA.
  • You also need to have Google Chrome version 110.0.5481.105 or above or Microsoft Edge version 110.0.1587.56.

How to use the NVIDIA VSR on your system?

  • First things first, you are supposed to download the latest RTX 30 or 40 series drivers. They can be found on the official website of NVIDIA. To download the driver, you will be required to enter the GPU details like model number, series, product type, language, and operating system, and then hit the search button. After that, you will see the latest drivers for your card, and now you can download and install them on your system.
  • Open the NVIDIA Control Panel on your Windows PC when you can go by right-clicking on your desktop, heading to the More menu option, and then clicking on the NVIDIA Control Panel.
  • Once you open the NVIDIA control panel, navigate to Adjust video image settings. Now, on the right side of the screen, you will see an RTX video enhancement option, click on it and then enable the Super-resolution. After that, you will have to select the quality level from the new drop-down menu available on the screen. One thing which you should keep in mind here is that the high-quality setting will deliver improved image quality, but it will also take a fair share of the GPU’s space and performance.
  • As soon as you are done with the above-mentioned steps, open Edge or Chrome on your Windows PC and then head to any of your favorite video streaming platform. Now, play any video on 360p or 144p. NVIDIA VSR tech will instantly come into force and upgrade the quality of the video.
