There are often times when a certain line of a song or a certain music section of a track gets stuck in your head but you can’t remember which song it exactly is, what are its lyrics, and from which album it is? These times used to be frustrating as a simple Google search wasn’t able to find the exact song for you but now no more. YouTube Music has solved this pertinent problem for music lovers as the platform allows you to search for a song by simply humming, playing, or singing a part of the song. This feature comes in handy when one doesn’t remember the lyrics of the song but it is stuck somewhere in their head. Dive in to know how this feature works.

A report by 9to5Google claims that the new tool in YouTube Music will respond to not only humming but also a melody being played on an instrument to search for it. YouTube has been testing this feature since March 2024 and now it has been rolled out to users. The new tool is similar to Google Search’s tool available since 2020 on iOS as well as Android devices. Google lets music lovers say “What’s this song?” or tap on the “Search the song” button to start humming for 10-15 seconds to search for that particular track. It then shows all the matching searches it is able to find.

Let us now talk about how YouTube Music’s new tool works.
