Honor 8X FAQ with Pros and Cons – All Questions Answered

5

Huawei today launched another mid-range phone, the Honor 8X, in India. In practice, the Honor 8X isn’t immensely different from other Huawei mid-range phones but it still has a lot to show up for its aggressive price.

The handset has the new Kirin 710 mid-range chipset, an extra-large display, adequate battery, and adheres to the modern trends. Let’s try and address all Honor 8X related doubts or queries that you might have in order to help you make up your mind.

Design and Display

Question: How is the Honor 8X Design?

Answer: The Honor 8X is quite manageable in spite of the large 6.5-inch display. The in-hand feel of the phone isn’t vastly different from other glass body Honor or Huawei phones we have used this year.

As a distinguishing element, the back has dual texture. You can’t feel this texture as it’s underneath the glass. It’s more noticeable when you use the phone without a case, which is not very convenient since the glass back is prone to smudges.

Question: Does Honor 8X case cover comes bundled in the box?

Answer: Yes, Honor 8X comes with a soft case in the box.

Question: Does Honor 8X has a micro USB port Type-B port at the bottom?

Answer: Honor 8X has a regular micro USB Type-B port at the bottom. No Type-C.

Question: Does Honor 8X has face unlock?

Answer: Yes it does.

Question: Is the Honor 8X Fingerprint sensor fast enough?

Answer: Yes, the Fingerprint sensor is very fast.

Question: How is the Honor 8X Display?

Answer: The Honor 8X has a 6.5-inch display, which is bigger than any other Honor phone launched in India this year.

The Full HD+ screen has 19.5:9 aspect ratio and very narrow bezels on all sides. The display quality is about average.

Question: Does Honor 8X support Auto brightness? How is outdoor visibility?

Answer: Yes, there is an option for Automatic brightness adjustment. Outdoor visibility is poor.

Performance and Software

Question: How is the performance of Kirin 710 Chipset?

Answer: The Kirin 710 chipset is a noticeable improvement over the Kirin 659 that Huawei used on all its mid-range phones last year. The 12nm process based chipset has four Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.2GHz and other four Cortex-A53 cores ticking at 1.7GHz.

It still isn’t as powerful as analogous Qualcomm alternatives like Snapdragon 660 octa-core chipset.

Question: How effective is GPU Turbo technology on Honor 8X?

GPU Turbo technology gives gaming some boost but it only works for two to three games, one of which is PUBG. Even with GPU Turbo, the performance isn’t extraordinary.

Question: Does Honor 8X has a dedicated card slot?

Answer: Yes, the Honor 8X has a dedicated card slot that can accept up to 400GB of microSD storage.

Question: Does Honor 8X support Dual SIM Dual VoLTE?

Answer: Yes, Dual SIM dual VoLTE is supported.

Question: Does Honor 8X support Dual Band Wi-Fi?

Answer: No, the Kirin 710 chipset doesn’t support Dual-Band Wi-Fi.

Question: How is the Honor 8X Software? Will Honor 8X get Android 9 Pie update?

Answer: Honor 8X runs Android 8.1 Oreo-based EMUI 8.2 software out of the box. The custom skin is feature rich to an extent where it gets a bit overwhelming. It’s still quite stable and efficient, though.

Honor has a good track record with version updates, but there is no official confirmation for Android pie yet.

Battery

Question: How is the Honor 8X battery backup?

Answer: Battery backup has always been a strong point of Honor phones. The 3750mAh battery on the Honor 8X doesn’t disappoint either.

Question: Does Honor 8X support fast charging?

Answer: No.

Question: What is Honor 8X Charger rating?

Answer: Honor 8X comes with a 10W (5V, 2A) charger in the box.
