Gionee has announced the Marathon M5 in India at a press event in Bangalore. The stand-out feature of this phone is its massive battery. The smartphone will be available in three colors – Black, Gold, and White and will go on sale exclusively on Flipkart from Tuesday midnight.

The Marathon M5 sports a 5.5-inch AMOLED 720p HD display which is powered by a quad-core MediaTek MT6735 chipset coupled with 2GB RAM. The phone comes with 16GB storage which is expandable up to 128GB using a microSD card.

Despite carrying decent meat inside, the biggest USP of Marathon M5 is its supersized 6020 mAh battery. In fact, Gionee has combined two 3010 mAh battery which as per the company can last 4 days on a single charge on moderate usage. Why two instead of one big battery? I am glad you asked. Gionee claims that a single 6020mAh power unit would be too unstable and risky.

Phone also has an additional extreme mode in which it can last for 32 hours with last 5 percent charge. Further exhibiting its confidence, Marathon M5 includes reverse charging support which means that users can use their phone as a power bank to charge other devices.

Gionee Marathon M5 supports dual SIM 4G LTE, an IR blaster, wi-fi, Bluetooth and GPS. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS with Amigo 3.1 layered on top of it. In terms of optics, this marathon phone wears a 13-megapixel primary camera at the back and a 5-megapixel camera at the front to capture sharp portrait and landscapes. Gionee Marathon M5 will ship in India at Rs. 17,999.
