Fitbit has stepped up its game and launched, what can be called, its first fashionable Smartwatch, Fitbit Blaze, which will be available in India starting from 19,999 INR. Though Fitbit has launched a smartwatch before (Fitbit Surge), the Blaze elevates it to the same league as the Moto 360 or Apple Watch.

Fitbit still does not lose its priority focus on health and fitness, but Blaze is complimented by a slim, elegant design, full color display, provides customizable bands and watch frames, offers several custom watch faces and can relays important smartphone notifications.

“One of the first things we learned in this industry is that fitness is personal – and if something isn’t your style, you won’t wear it,” said James Park, CEO and Co-Founder of Fitbit. “With Fitbit Blaze, we pushed the boundaries of what’s possible to create a beautiful, versatile device that can be customized to fit your personal style – while packing a powerful fitness punch to help you reach your goals. Fitbit Blaze delivers a combination of innovative features that were carefully selected with intention and purpose, designed to motivate and offer a fitness experience that is more effortless and more useful with advanced guidance and coaching.”

Fitbit Surge is a step up for the company, but lack of proper app store and a proper ecosystem backing which Android Wear or Watch OS enjoy makes this a lower lever product. The day after Fitbit announced Blaze, its shares jettisoned by 18 percent. This implies investors weren’t very happy with the company’s decision to go big and take on tier 1 branded wearables.
