The Provident Fund (PF) is a government-sponsored retirement savings scheme that provides financial security to employees after their retirement. Every month, a certain percentage of an employee’s salary is contributed to their PF account by the employer, and the employee can also contribute an additional amount if they wish. It is important to keep track of the balance in your PF account to ensure that you are receiving the correct contributions from your employer and to plan for your future financial needs.

One way to check your PF balance is through the Unified Member Portal using your Universal Account Number (UAN). However, if you don’t have your UAN or have not activated it, there are still ways to check your PF balance. Here are some methods you can use to check your PF balance without a UAN number:

1. SMS

One of the easiest ways to check your PF balance without a UAN number is through SMS. You can send an SMS to the EPFO at 7738299899 with your registered mobile number and the following message: EPFOHO UAN ENG. Replace “ENG” with the first three letters of the language you prefer (e.g. HIN for Hindi, MAR for Marathi). The EPFO will then send your PF balance details to your registered mobile number.

2. Missed Call

Another way to check your PF balance is through a missed call. You can give a missed call to 011-22901406 from your registered mobile number. After a few rings, the call will be disconnected automatically and you will receive an SMS with your PF balance details.

3. UMANG App

The UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance) app is a government initiative that provides access to various government services through a single mobile app. You can download the UMANG app and use it to check your PF balance without a UAN number. After downloading the app, you can select the EPFO option and enter your PF account number and mobile number to view your PF balance.

4. EPFO Website

You can also check your PF balance without a UAN number through the EPFO website. Go to the EPFO website and click on the ‘For Employees’ option. From there, select the ‘Member Passbook’ option and enter your details such as your state, PF office, and establishment code. You can then view your PF balance and download your passbook.

In conclusion, it is important to keep track of your PF balance to ensure that you are receiving the correct contributions from your employer and to plan for your future financial needs. While checking your PF balance through the Unified Member Portal using your UAN number is the easiest method, there are still other ways to check your PF balance without a UAN number. You can use SMS, missed call, the UMANG app, or the EPFO website to check your PF balance. By regularly checking your PF balance, you can stay informed about your retirement savings and plan for a financially secure future.
