Microblogging platform Twitter was taken over by Elon Musk who revamped it as ‘X’. He also rolled out premium plans for users who want extra features, but these plans are as expensive as Rs. 2000 per month. However, seems like Musk has had an epiphany as he has announced free premium and premium+ subscriptions. However, there is catch as not anyone can avail of these plans for free. Dive in to know who is eligible for these free Premium and Premium+ subscriptions.

Currently, X subscribers get benefits like verified badges, editing post options, long-form posts, and articles. However, soon free X users with a certain number of followers will get access to the service for free.

Elon Musk claims that any X users with 2500 verified subscriber followers will receive X Premium features for free. If one has 5000 such followers, they will get access to the Premium+ version for free. Premium+ also comes with a Grok AI chatbot and more premium features. While the wording of the post did confuse users who thought anyone having 2500 and above followers would get a free Premium X subscription, in actuality, it isn’t the case. The post means one should have 2500 paid subscribers to get a premium plan himself/herself.

Having 2500 blue tick followers is a task in itself, so getting these subscriptions for free is still a tough task for maximum users. The offer which seems generous on the outside isn’t that much so on the inside.

The reason why such a scheme is being given might be Premium and Premium+ plans not getting as much attention as Musk hoped for. Earlier Musk had talked about charging a fee of 1 dollar to make everyone use X to grow the platform, but this new announcement suggests he wants to focus on growing the premium subscriber base first.
