Hybrid and electric cars are transforming the automotive industry through providing more sustainable solutions to traditional gasoline cars. Electric cars only use electricity as fuel, hence their emissions are nil, and they contribute to the conservation of the environment. These cars have added advantages of updated batteries that provide longer distances and less charging period as compared to before.

On the other hand, there are hybrid cars that have an ICE and an electric motor, although the electric motor offers efficiency as well as range. This combination enables hybrids to limit their emission and fuel usage without experiencing the shortcoming of range-focused fully electric vehicles. Each offers solutions to different requirements, and hence, it places them as strategic stakeholders in the move towards green mobility.

When choosing whether to buy an electric or hybrid car, it is somewhat complex as both models have their pros and cons. Consumers are aware that electric cars emit less and hence are less damaging to the environment and thus deemed environmentally friendly. They also have relatively low operating costs, which is because they are cheaper when it comes to charging and servicing compared to vehicles that use petrol or diesel.

Further, electric cars provide a comfortable and almost soundless ride, accompanied by government incentives such as rebates and registration fee discounts. However, they have the drawbacks like limited range and higher time to recharge compared with petrol or diesel vehicles, higher and fixed initial cost, insufficient charging stations in some areas, and having to replace old batteries with new ones at substantial cost.

As for the second type of hybrid cars that use an ICE in combination with an electric motor, they have comparatively greater fuel economy and a longer-lasting battery charge. It may be noted that hybrid cars are generally more complicated, which in turn implies that their maintenance costs could be higher than those of regular cars; however, they are still cheaper than fully-electric automobiles. Hybrids also offer lower emissions and performance comparable to electric cars; however, they can refuel within a short time at any fuel station. However, they are cheaper to maintain in comparison to ICE cars and yet they have higher costs of purchase initially.
