A Futuristic Looking Robovac You Can’t Buy (Yet)
After debuting quietly in China earlier this year, DJI has now begun the global rollout of the Romo series, focusing exclusively on mainland Europe. India, the United States, and the United Kingdom are all missing from the list, a decision that immediately caught attention in the smart home community.
Before you blame it on India’s drone import restrictions, that’s not the issue here. The Romo is a home appliance, not an aircraft. Instead, sources close to DJI suggest the company is taking a measured rollout approach, testing logistics, after-sales infrastructure, and regulatory alignment in a single, unified market before tackling complex territories like India and the US.

Despite aesthetic differences, the core tech remains identical. DJI’s dual fisheye vision sensors and solid-state lidar, adapted from its drone systems, allow the Romo to detect obstacles as thin as 2mm, like charging cables or even playing cards. It pairs that precision with a massive 25,000Pa suction power, dual rotating mop pads, and an auto-lifting mop system that avoids wetting carpets.
The base station, meanwhile, showcases DJI’s engineering pedigree with:
- Hot air drying and high-pressure mop washing
- Noise suppression system (up to 80% quieter than typical docks)
- Dual cleaning and deodorizer solutions for fragrance-based cleaning
It’s all wrapped in a glossy, transparent shell that makes even cleaning look cinematic, though one has to wonder how long it stays that pristine in daily use.
India’s Wait May Belong to Dreame
While DJI and Roborock stay away from India, the next big thing for Indian smart home enthusiasts could come from Dreame. The company’s upcoming X50 Ultra Complete, expected to debut in India in 2026, promises many of the same features, including AI-assisted mapping, mop lifting, and auto-refilling docks, but is likely to be offered at a more accessible price.
