The Indian Government has introduced the DigiYatra facility at three different airports in the country. With the mentioned facility, users can get a smooth entry for their travel with facial recognition technology. The DigiYatra Facility is available at IGI airport in Delhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi, and Kempegowda International Airport in Bangalore. It is being speculated that the services will be launched for more airports in Early 2023.

Indian Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia launched the facility at the IGI airport on December 1. As he mentioned, the latest check-in facility will keep a check on the safety of the passenger data, as all the information will be stored in an encrypted format.

In its first phase, the service will be available for the onboard airlines. All the passengers who are flying in domestic planes can use the facility at the Delhi, Varanasi, and Bangalore airports. As of now, only three airlines are part of the initiative – Air India, IndiGo, and Vistara. SpiceJet is also looking to join the bandwagon soon.

DigiYatra facility details

In its testing phase, the DigiYatra facility was rolled out at Hyderabad International airport for a tenure of three months. According to the launch timeline, we will get to see the facility in Vijayawada, Pune, Kolkata, and Hyderabad by March 2023, which will be the second phase of the rollout.

Apart from that, the services will soon be available for all the primary airports in India. The DigiYatra application is available on both Android and iOS for users who want to check in via the new tech. In order to take leverage of the DigiYatra services, users will have to first register on the application by Aadhaar-based validation.

After that, the boarding pass of the users will be scanned and shared with the airport 24 hours prior to the flying time. At the airport gate, users will be allowed to check in using the barcode on the scanned boarding pass along with facial recognition.
