Nothing has announced the third generation of its OS via a recent video. The Nothing OS 3.0 based on Android 15 comes with changes and refinements that have been showcased in a video. The company claims that Nothing OS 3.0 is an important update as it always wanted to make this kind of OS. It comes with a Nothing Gallery app, various customization options, and an AI-powered Smart Drawer. Nothing OS 3.0: Rollout & Availability

The Nothing OS 3.0 Beta Rollout will start in October. The list of phones being eligible isn’t been announced yet but the expected devices are Nothing Phone (2), Nothing Phone (2a), and Nothing Phone (2a) Plus. The stable release will take place in December.

Nothing OS 3.0: Features

Nothing Gallery & Camera Applications

The Nothing OS 3.0 comes with a built-in gallery app. The app works seamlessly with the camera app. The camera app can also process HDR and portrait effects 25% quicker.

Smart Drawer

Nothing OS 3.0 uses Artificial Intelligence to categorize apps and arrange the most used apps up top. The smart drawer functions similarly to the iOS app library and is called a Smart Drawer. It can be turned on or off and the regular app drawer is still available by default. Users can pin their favorite apps on the top.

Other AI Features

The OS comes with automatic image categorization and natural language search. AI upscaling or super-resolution and AI Image generation will also roll out in the future.

Quick Settings Tile Arrangement

Quick Settings Tiles are modular and their size can be changed as per likeability. Carl Pei is calling it intuitive. Auto-brightness can also be switched on with a toggle and brightness slider.

Lock screen clock & Widgets

Nothing OS 3.0 introduces an expanded selection of clock faces and widgets. Among the new clock face designs are the N-Type and N-Dot, which resemble the clocks found at London Underground railway stations.

New UI Elements

The Nothing OS 3.0 has received new UI elements like fonts, Transparency, and Dot Matrix. There are new Dot Animations in fingerprint animations and charging indicators too. The N-Dot font is paired with Sans Serif font for better readability. The Dot Matrix UI expands to applications like Weather where you will find animated weather icons. Nothing is also teasing new transparent software elements to visualize data better. How this will work remains to be seen.

Home screen widgets

Users have the option to select from more than 20 pre-installed widgets, including a countdown widget. Additionally, it enables the sharing of specific widgets, such as the pedometer, with other Nothing OS users to enhance connectivity. Users can also express their reactions using stickers on the shared widgets.
