Asus TUF 15 Gaming Review: Design

The Asus TUF F15 Gaming laptop has not undergone any major design changes. The laptop is slightly lighter and thinner with its weight and thickness being 2.2kg and 24.95mm respectively. Though it feels bulky as it is 2kg plus in weight but compared to others from the Asus TUF book line-up, this one is lighter. The laptop comes in 2 shades of Grey- Mecca and Jaegar, mine being Jaegar Grey. The lid of the laptop is metallic whereas the rest of the body is made of solid quality plastic.

Vents are provided on both sides of the device for better thermal performance. The laptop has passed Military Garde MIL-STD 810H test which claims to give it drop protection. The build quality is good and the machine does look good from the outside. The lid has the new logo design of Asus which gives it a bold look.

Asus TUF F15 Gaming Review: I/O Ports and connectivity

There is no dearth of connectivity options and I/O ports in the TUF F15 Gaming laptop. It comes with a strong assortment of ports as the left side sees 1 USB 3.2 gen 1 Type-A port, an HDMI port, an RJ45 LAN port, an audio jack, power output, and 2 USB Type C ports. One of the Type C ports gives Thunderbolt 4 support.

The right side houses a Kensington lock and a Full-size USB port. The right side also sees the vent which gushes out the air during gaming to keep the laptop cool.  Additionally, the TUF F15 Gaming laptop supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 to increase options for seamless connectivity.

Asus TUF F15 Gaming Review: Display

The TUF F15 Gaming laptop features a 15.6-inch WQHD IPS display with a refresh rate of 165Hz and 3ms response time. The refresh rate makes the scrolling experience smoother with 300 nits brightness, the laptop’s display is visible even when direct sunlight falls on it.

The laptop comes with a 100% DCI-P3 color gamut and this is visible in the visuals on the screen. The visuals on TUF F15 are precise and clear with punchy colors. The content looked equally stunning from all viewing angles and visuals while gaming too never stuttered or lagged.

The display panel supports the needs of both gamers and content creators. It has a 16:9 aspect ratio and this makes the visuals look big. Overall, the display quality is good.

Asus TUF F15 Gaming Review: Battery

The TUF F15 Gaming laptop packs a 90Whr battery under the hood. The battery lasted for about 6 hours with multitasking between Chrome, MS Word, YouTube Videos, and WhatsApp web. The brightness was kept under 50% and headphones were connected to watch videos.

However, if you are all set to have a long gaming session, then plug in the charger as otherwise, the battery will give just about 1- 1.5 hours of runtime. There is a 240W power adapter that charges the device at a decent speed. The battery life is not exceptionally good, but it works.

Asus TUF F15 Gaming Review: Keyboard, Trackpad & Numpad

The keyboard has not much changed since the last TUF devices but that doesn’t mean they are not good. The keyboard is comfortable to use during gaming as well as typing. There is adequate space between keys and the travel distance is decent too. There are 4 keys that are differently colored than the others. These 4 white keys don’t need backlighting to brighten and shine out at all times.

The backlight in this keyboard changes colors frequently and this makes the keyboard look beautiful. The brightness level of the keyboard can be adjusted as per needs. It is a desktop-sized keyboard and the keycaps are very smooth to touch.

Talking about the Trackpad cum Numpad, it is mid-sized and has physical buttons on the left and the right. The trackpad is smooth in operation but you can mouse too if you want to for gaming purposes. There is a gesture navigation support and Windows Precision Drivers as well. NumPad is within Trackpad itself and it is decent to use.

Asus TUF F15 Gaming Review: Performance & gaming

For power, the TUF F15 gaming laptop is equipped with a 12th Gen Intel Core i7-12700H CPU. It is paired with 16GB DDR5 RAM and up to 1TB NVMe SSD storage. The laptop is fast for multitasking. No matter how many apps are open, the speed doesn’t slow down. Neither are there any lags.

The laptop comes with an integrated Iris Xe GPU which handles most of the graphic needs. The laptop comes with a GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Gaming card which gives seamless gaming operations. There is a dedicated MUX Switch at the bottom of the laptop whose basic function is to switch between the discrete GPU and the integrated GPU.

Gaming is something for which, this laptop is made as its name has the word ‘Gaming’. TUF F15 does live up to its name as gaming is ultra-fast and ultra-smooth on this laptop. Whether it is heavy games like PUBG, Far Cry 6, GTA 5, or light games like Candy Crush, all run well. The keyboard when used for operating backlights beautifully. The visuals of the games are vibrant and fast but the sound quality does disappoint.

The games run with high frame rates and in HD quality but the sound from the dual speakers doesn’t complement the visuals. Although the laptop claims to come with Dolby Atmos support and Hi-Res audio certification the sound that comes out of it doesn’t meet the standards.

The thermal performance too disappoints as the laptop heated up very quickly during gaming as well as charging. The side of the laptop has vents and it threw out hot air but still, the laptop felt too hot to be put on the lap for use. Thermal performance and sound quality could have been better. 720p Webcam is just about average.

Asus TUF F15 Gaming Review Verdict: Should you buy it?

All in all, the Asus TUF F15 Gaming laptop is a very good gaming laptop. It is good for other everyday tasks too but the main area it boasts of is gaming performance. The laptop is fast, has a good display, and has a beautiful backlit keyboard. The design is nothing unique but the build quality is solid. Although it doesn’t have a good battery life, audio, and thermal performance is weak as well, but these can be ignored if you are a gamer and need a gaming specific laptop.
