The ASUS’ Republic of Gamers (ROG) has revealed a new range of gaming laptops with unprecedented 4K AMOLED displays with the 120Hz refresh rate. The announcement of new ROG Gaming Laptops happened at Computex 2019 in Taipei, Taiwan.

The biggest highlight of the lineup was a 17.3-inch 240Hz laptop display. Apart from this, the company would also showcase 4K120 and 4K AMOLED high-resolution panels.

Strix SCAR III G731 and Hero III G731 would be the first laptops in the world to sport a 17.3-inch 240Hz/3ms display. This would be aided by NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 graphics and ROG Boost to deliver triple-digit frame rates, favorable for smoother gameplay.

High-Resolution Panels: 4K120 and 4K UHD AMOLED

ASUS has partnered with AUO to produce 4K UHD panels that come with the 120Hz refresh rate. This would be a 15.6-inch panel backed by NVIDIA G-SYNC Technology and 3ms response time. Further, the 400 nit backlight improves visibility in brighter environments.

These would be capable of drawing from a wide gamut that covers 100% of the Adobe RGB color space, a much broader range than standard sRGB. Moreover, the panel could also be factory calibrated and PANTONE Validated to offer color accuracy for professionals and content creators.

ROG would also be demoing a 4K UHD AMOLED display with a static 60Hz refresh rate but featuring an ultrafast 1ms response time. The HDR display would offer an 80,000:1 contrast ratio delivering deep, rich blacks. It would cover 100% of the DCI-P3 color space commonly used in movie production, convenient for video editing. With eight bits per channel plus two more via dithering, the display could produce over a billion individual hues. It’s lightweight could also factor in as a feature.
