Apple’s World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) is an event that is held annually by the brand and showcases the latest software and hardware innovations from Apple. This year WWDC 2023 will be held from June 5 to June 9, 2023, at the Apple Park in Cupertino, California. The keynote address will be held on Monday, June 5 at 10:00 AM PT.  The event will be streamed online via Apple’s YouTube channel and for those who want to visit Apple Park, it is free now.

When Apple announced the dates of WWDC 2023 in March 2023, here’s what Apple Newsroom stated, “Apple today announced it will host its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in an online format from June 5 through June 9, 2023, with an opportunity for developers and students to celebrate in person at a special experience at Apple Park on opening day.”

This year Apple is expected to announce a host of innovations both in the hardware and software category. Here’s what you can expect from this year’s WWDC.

Hardware Announcements

Apple Reality Pro Headset

After a long wait and period of anticipation, Apple is most likely to showcase its 1st ever Mixed Reality Headset that will be capable of both AR and VR functionalities. It is said to be named Apple Reality Pro Headset and is priced at around 3000 USD. The headset aims towards developers and will help them build virtual reality and augmented reality apps for Apple’s AR/VR ecosystem.

The leaks claim that the headset might be powered by an M2 chipset and sport a 4K micro-OLED display panel with 4000 ppi and 5000 nits of peak brightness. The device might come with an external battery that can be worn at the waist and also have gesture-based controls instead of a physical controller. The headset will run xrOS and feature a dozen cameras that will be able to read facial expressions, detect body movements and map nearby areas. For security there will be an iris scanner and the headset will also be able to access Apple TV and Apple Music.

New MacBooks

Apple is expected to announce a 15-inch MacBook which would join the already available 13-inch MacBook Air. This new 15-inch MacBook is expected to be powered by an M2 chipset with 8GB RAM and a high-resolution display. Mark Gurman claims that an updated 13-inch MacBook Air and a new 13-inch MacBook Pro might also see the light of the day during the WWDC 2023.

Software Announcements

Various Software related updates are expected that will look to expand user choice, along with quality-of-life improvements.

iOS 17

iOS 17 will be the major software update for iPhones and it is expected to be announced during the keynote. A bunch of new features will come to iPhones, courtesy of the iOS 17 update. Control Center will be getting a new design as well as updates along with a journaling application that will allow users to record their daily activities. UI changes to Health app are also expected. The Find My App and Wallet App will be updated and ios 17 will bring a personal voice feature for those who lose the ability to speak. This will help iPhone to clone the voice within 15 minutes.

Point and Speak in Magnifier feature is also expected which will make it easy for visually challenged people to interact with physical tools. Moreover, Siri might be relocated to Dynamic Island and would just need ‘Siri’ instead of ‘Hey Siri’ to start talking. Sideloading of apps is also expected.

iPhone 15 Series, iPhone 14 series, iPhone 13 series, iPhone 12 series, iPhone 11 series, iPhone SE 2020, and iPhone SE 2022 are expected to get iOS 17 update.

WatchOS 10

WatchOS 10 is expected to get a major update for the Apple Watch with bigger enhancements and an updated interface. Apple plans to update watch hardware majorly in 2024 as the watch will have a larger and custom-built display. WatchOS 10 will get new widgets that will be comparable to Glances and work with any Watch Face. Instead of opening up apps, users will be able to scroll through widgets for activity tracking, weather, calendar, events, and more. Pressing on the crown will open widgets instead of having to navigate through the home screen.

Apple might also introduce a new home screen layout with the watchOS 10 update. The new layout will be easier to navigate and will bring ios like features including folders for apps.

iPad OS 17

iPad OS 17 is said to get new accessibility features including Personal Voice which is a machine-based learning feature allowing iPhone to speak in your own voice. Live Speech will allow users to type what they want to say to have it spoken out loud during phone and FaceTime calls as well as in-person conversations. It will be a text-to-speech app.

Mark Gurman claims that iPad OS 17 will also allow users to download apps outside the app store for the first time ever. @analyst941 on Twitter claims one of the biggest updates for iPad OS 17 which will be the Stage Manager. iPad OS 17 will get support for external monitor webcam as well as audio output source settings. Users will be able to stream multiple video and audio sources while the Stage Manager is on and will also get an option for a resizable dock in external display settings.

Features like a new journaling app, active widgets, and a redesigned control center might come to iPad OS 17 as well.

Apple is also expected to announce xrOS, tvOS 17, and macOS 14 during the event.
