Apple is reportedly working on a smart doorbell camera that might launch in 2025

Apple, the technology powerhouse headquartered in Cupertino, is making significant strides in enhancing its smart home product range in 2025. Recent reports indicate that the company plans to introduce a smart doorbell camera equipped with Face ID technology for door unlocking. According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, this innovative smart doorbell camera is expected to debut in late 2025, potentially transforming the landscape of home security devices.

Gurman asserts that the smart doorbell camera will operate in a manner akin to Face ID on iPhones, automatically unlocking the door upon recognizing you or other household members. Like other Apple products, this smart doorbell camera is anticipated to utilize the Secure Enclave chip, which manages and safeguards biometric information separately from the primary hardware, thereby enhancing privacy.

The upcoming smart doorbell camera is expected to work seamlessly with current third-party HomeKit smart locks, providing Apple users with greater flexibility within the ecosystem. Alternatively, Apple may collaborate with a smart lock manufacturer to create an integrated system for the launch. This smart doorbell camera will utilize Apple’s proprietary ‘Proxima’ chip, which combines WiFi and Bluetooth technology to enhance the performance of next-generation HomePod Mini and Apple TV devices.

The smart doorbell camera is not an isolated innovation; it is part of Apple’s broader initiative to enhance its smart home ecosystem under the banner of Apple Intelligence. Critics argue that any malfunction or vulnerability within the ecosystem could pose serious threats, such as unauthorized entry into homes. Nevertheless, Apple is committed to prioritizing user safety, a principle it upholds across all its products.

The doorbell camera is currently in the initial phases of development, making its final release date unclear. Should it prove successful, this device has the potential to enhance convenience and security for Apple users, while integrating smoothly with Apple’s wider ecosystem.
